Wow, just little over a hundred and a body panel flew off. sounds like somthing was loose and he didn't notice.

Screws vibrate loose unless they are fully tightened. I know, I lost a few of them cause I didn't double check.

When your going fast a loose screw in the wrong place can let air catch under a panel and do serious damage.

Left or Right side? I have a lower right missing some plastic at the upper right corner and otherwise in decent shape minus some scratches that you can have for the price of shipping. PM me and let me know if you are interested?

I'm not sure what your insurance status is but maybe if ya want it fixed 100% it may be time to go that route...

Call or email this guy for a repair and paint estimate. It's probably the route I'm taking with my own rashed and cracked panels. He tells me that he can usually repair and repaint for about half of the OEM cost of new plastic. You really should check to see if you have bent or broken mounting tabs and fasteners, as anything you put back on may break again if not positioned exactly in the right places, or you might scratch something struggling to get it on correctly. Good luck.

You can do that but you have to paint your tank to match, plus those plastics sometimes are a pain to attach to the bike! Stick with OEM!

There is no way I would ever report this to insurance... The only thing I would use insurance for is a total loss/theft. And even then it might be a tough decision balancing how much they pay out versus how much my premiums would increase after the fact.

I have a wicked deal thru state farm, and I am not about to screw that up for $800 worth of plastics... Premiums could go up significantly and depending on the deductible, you'd have to pay in some cash to get some cash...

I low sided my VFR a while ago on the right side. Lower cowl, turn signal, engine clutch cover, mirror, bar end, foot peg, hand/foot brake levers, and associated hardware only cost $833 TOTAL. Then it was just my labor to put it all back together.

I bought all of my OEM parts thru a Honda dealership in Hammond, IN - Service Honda. Cheapest part prices that I found BY FAR !

    Jester:

$310 for your lower cowl (comes with all decals and foam on the inside). $350 for the upper

Hope you get it all back together.

As far as paint matching is concerned, the guy I talked to told me that if I also send a part of the fplastic work (mudguard or seat cowl), that isn't damaged he can colour match the new paint to everything else.

Does antone know if this sounds legit, or is he just blowing smoke?

The sample is for scanning. This data is added to the known formula for your bike color, the computer figures out the fudge factor. It is perfect? Nope. Nothing is perfect except your neighbors children who just put a rock through your window.
