If anyone is looking to go for a ride this Saturday I've got one.
A buddy of mine is riding from Gainesville, VA to a Salem, NJ DMV just over the Delaware Memorial Bridge to get an inspection.
Don't ask me why all the trouble but it sounded like a good blast for a Saturday morning run.

He is leaving VA around 0700 with a couple riders and heading up the 95.
I'll be meeting up with him around 0830 at the McDonalds on Rt 175 just off the 95 at exit 41A.

Anyone is welcome to join in.

Can anyone recomend a good joint to eat at once we re-enter Delaware?

Hope to see some VFR's out there!

Well fellas you missed it, The ride was awesome!
We left McDonalds at 0900 and I didn't get back home until 1700. We shot strait up the 95 to Salem, NJ just under 2hrs, did the inspection, had a little starter trouble with my bike, and headed back the a scenic route I mapped out. I don't know what the problem was. No instrument lights and would not start. Someone had a jump box and gave me a jump and everything was fine after that. Weird man.

Stopped off at Rascals on Rt 13 in New Castle, DE (Highly recommended) for lunch then turned onto the Rt. 273 west to Rt. 1. Which as it happens took us strait through Newark and the University of Delaware. OMG!! So much to see I thought my eyes would fall out. It felt like spring break at Ft Lauderdale!

In hind sight I would have stopped for lunch on Main St in Newark and eaten at one of the bars/resturants with curbside seating. Did I mention the view?!

A quick stop on campus to work out a few cramps from Rascals pulled pork and we were off. As soon as we were clear of the university the road opened up and turned into a very nice ride. This route takes you through some very nice farming areas with moderate speeds, curves, and hills. About 4 miles after the 273 joins Rt. 1 you go over a water level bridge over the Susquehanna River. Nice views.

It was a gorgeous day and I think everyone who owned a bike was out riding. My left hand got so tired of waving that I had to resort to the head nod. I guess Old Glory Harley was having an open house because there was about 5,000 Harleys on the road. My plan was to head all the way down Rt. 1 to the open house at Pete's Cycle but the day was getting late and a few of us where getting tired and still had to get back to Gainesville, VA so we cut and ran to the 95 on the 543.

Maybe if I get another chance to do this ride I'll make it all the way down Rt. 1 to the 147 and come into Baltimore on Harford Rd.

Everybody made it home safe and had a great time and that's what's important!

    Later,
    Chris

That "water level bridge" would be called a dam (the Conowingo Dam, if you want to look it up on the map), not that you have much time to be looking around when you're riding over it, it's a pretty narrow roadway.
There are some good roads in that area north and south of Rt 1.

Wish I had seen this post earlier, I would have met up with you guys for an escort across the Del Memorial bridge. Been over it on motorcycles many times. It can be a little interesting if there's a stiff breeze blowing, otherwise, the cages seem to stay out of my way.

I worked at the university in Newark for 9 years, had a corner office (Academy and Delaware Ave), and you're right, not much work got done around class change time in the spring. No wonder both of my sons are in college there.
There's lots of good eating in town. I know there are several members in the Newark area. Seen some VFR's on the road, but haven't met up with any of them yet.
