    Hey,
So I have a 98' and I already had it started and out this season. Went to ride Sat. morning. Everything lit up, full power and all I got was a "click" and nothing else.
Kick stand was up, it was in neutral and I replaced the R/R last season.
UHG! any one have any ideas on what's up.
You guys were great when I had the prob last season....any info is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alan

Check your battery with a voltmeter. I would guess that it's a little low.

dude if you replaced the rr, then all you are hearing is the starter relay clicking...broi would test your battery and test it at an autozone to make sure it has all the crankinkg amps... i had a prob similar to this a few weeks ago, the batt makes the bike do funny things other then start. mine is a 98 also, the only way i was able to start it was a jump from my truck...it had enougjh cranking amps to start her up, the charger didnt. turned out my battery was totally shot and made a couple things short out...also make sure your rr connector is lubed with diode grease and not bone dry, you dont wanna fry any wires or connections bro...

Based on Subject I cannot tell if you gott a new battery or if you are questioning if you need one...

If it cranks over witha Jump then you need a new battery or the Stator is not charging it enough... Get a digital voltmetter and make sure you have......Uhhhhhhh 14 volts????? Something like that so you know it's getting a charge while running...

check those connection on the RR if they are heated up and melting and not getting you the voltage you need...

Start with the very most basic...are your battery terminals tight?

As my battery died in the centre of Edinburgh last week with the same symptoms, that's where I'd be looking.

My charging system R/R all fine, but battery just gave up the ghost.

Keep a trickle charger on most of the time and your batterys will last MUCH longer.......

Yup. I got it now. I have all the dead batteries and dead R/R's... if you want to know if yours is on my list, just ask.
