I fail to see how using Mobil 1 synthetic in your VFR makes you a lazy bastard?

You still could be a lazy bastard but your choice of oil is not the cause.

With cheap oil you'd have to change more often at 3K miles but with synthetic you can go 8K miles without a change.. Yeah, that's a lazy bastard

Just a thought about the higher viscosity oil: I once owned a 1980 GS1000G Suzuki, an excellent UJM with shaft drive which I used for touring. It had a roller bearing crank which meant relatively low oil pressure and lots of volume. I installed an oil temp gauge because I was curious about the oil temp, natch. I tapped out the oil drain plug and installed a remote probe and ran it to a gauge I mounted on my Vetter Quicksilver fairing (remember those?). I discovered that when I changed oil from 10W-40 to 20W-50 my oil temps went up, and not just a couple of degrees, the change was substantial and they went back down when I went back to a lower viscosity oil. This was on an air-cooled, roller bearing engine so you can make of that what you will. But I have never gone back to 20W-50 oil and run 10W-40 only in my bikes now. This is just an observation, I'm not an engineer.

i can't believe how an oil thread gets everyone going. i say use whatever you feel is a good oil for you. hey its your engine. i used to use honda hp4 but i'm trying Repsol synthetic 10w40 this year and have no problems to report. i know its expensive but when my motor's turning 10,000 rpm i personally do not want to rely on the 1.99 stuff. thats my 2 cents .

Very interesting, I thought that the 20w-50 would run cooler, I will stick to the Amsoil 10w-40 , lol.

This is the one statement I know I agree with; after decades of oil study.

I need the cold weather viscosity here in Oregon- it was 28 degrees in the morning last week and it'll be 80 today.

I hate oil threads. They are on EVERY frappin' forum to which I belong...

I used to use GN-4 in the VFR800...

Then I used Mobil 1 10W-40 and 15W-50 automobile formulas until Mobil1 came out with the MX4T formula which just happens to be a 10W-40 formula... Which is now known as Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40.

Mobil's propaganda talks about how it's the best stuff for your motorcycle and plays nice with wet clutches. I believe it because when I used the M1 automobile formula, the clutch would slip/chatter on aggressive launches. With the Racing 4T formula, no slip/chatter and shifting is real smooth for longer - as the oil breaks down, the shifting gets notchy just like with any other oil. The transmission is hell on those long chain oil molecules.

One fact of the matter is that Mobil synthetic oils are trusted by manufacturers of some of the fastest machines bound to earth by gravity and even those that aren't... THAT is a pretty good testimonial in my mind...

I don't know of ONE vehicle or aircraft engine manufacturer that uses amsoil, redline, royal purple, or any of the other 'exotic' oils as a factory fill.

I run Mobil1 in my 15psi TurboCharged 2.4L daily driver and change the oil every 5000 miles which is about every 12 weeks with my commute...

We all have our favorite brands... Mine are Michelin Tires, Mobil 1 oil, and Paulaner Beer.

    G'nite, y'all...

I have two questions about the use of Crisco. First, is it better to use the regular stuff or the butter flavor? Second, how do you get it into that little hole in the motor?

I use Baby oil in my baby. Honda GN change it every 3000-4000 miles
Deepdish ia right baby oil on a firm round smooth butt is definitely the best
    endorsed by bill clinton, too

ok the oil debate is a neverending debate. So how often do you change your oil? Is 3k or 2k miles the correct interval? just thowing that out there because if the oil is soo good why do yuo have to change it so often, but then again what type of riding and what temps are you riding in. Oil change interval may be a more interesting debate.

Well I'll be a n00b and post from the article someone here posted from Sport Rider (too lazy to go back and figure out who that was, but thanks):

"With all this testing data (and expense), you'd think making a clear-cut decision as to which oil is best would be easy. In the case of engine oils, however, there are too many products and variables that go into this equation."

Now that being said, anyone use Repsol? I figure good enough for the Honda MotoGP Racing Team, good enough for me...

Also, just to further stir the pot, I recall someone mentioning filters; what about K&N oil filters?
