Like Tori said, having zero chicken strip IS NOT a good thing. If you're riding around at max lean & something bad happens & your tires have nothing left to give, the only thing that can happen after that is a crash. In all reality, you should have about 1/2" of chicken strip on street tires.

Like several of us point out fairly regularly, if you have zero chicken strip left, you need to do one of the following:
    1) Back it off a notch. You aren't Valention Rossi.
    2) Work on body position. It works wonders, trust me on this.
    3) Get to a race track.
    4) Make sure your bike & life insurance are paid up.

    KC-10 FE out...

Chicken strips? I don't have no chicken strips, I have the whole darn coop!! Late snows and lots of loose gravel everywhere. Hopefully we'll get some good hard rains in the next few weeks to wash it all away. Till then, I'll keep it fairly conservative at 3/4".

SEBSPEED....you are FLAT OUT NUTS maxing it out on a public road. I hope you have good insurance!

btw, is that the peg or center stand sparking?

    1/2" Right, 5/8" Left.

It's all about body position fellas! I'm more comfortable hanging off the left side hence more chicken strip I guess. Plus it doesn't take much for my jolly green giant body to counter balance the bike in a turn either...

STOP RIDING BEYOND MY LEVEL OF ABILITY!!!

Nobody here better be doing what your bikes are built for!

Meanwhile I will be keeping my tires a little bit more round as the middle wears down by grinding away the edges on asphalt. This makes them more safe by guaranteeing more contact area in deep turns, and by taking off old weathered rubber. When I need a little bit more it will be there and I'll be familiar with it!

Now none of you do anything I'm not comfortable with... Grrrr.

I ride the piece of asphalt the Seb was on regularly, but have never got down on it like that. To me, it's about a 40 mph turn, to Seb? 47, or 50 mph?
Chicken Strips, got'em, l...l that much.

I like the big red frame sliders on the back, they'd probably protect everything in a lowside.

They do actually! Unfortunately, my last set was proof of that.

When that pic was taken, the bags were fully loaded as I was on the return leg of a 3000 mile trip. When I ride without them, I hang off more and the lean angle is not so low.

I generally don't get past touching off my toe sliders(sz 13 boots!), but occasionally scrape peg in my home area.

I had been on the bike for the better part of a week already and was quite comfortable that day. Weather was perfect, road was perfect, no traffic, and great company.

The sparks re coming from the peg feeler on the left; I took the one on the right off. Left side stayed on because the kickstand & centerstand are next in line, not good touching off the solid stuff!

I'm working on eliminating my chicken strips, but it's a slow process with a sanding block (heeheehee).

But seriously, folks, I'm getting her down lower everyday, so I hope to be worthy at some point in the near future. Not Seb-worthy of course, but worthy just the same.

5.4mm on the front tire. rolled rubber on the back.

I like mine with sweet n sour.

Generally, if you are drifting on a grade properly, your rear will wear a lot faster than the front. Its quite rare to have front at 0, and NOT have low sided the bike.

I had chicken strips when I was a kid, so I shouldn't catch them again.

I'd be curious to know if anyone here has actually low-sided a VFR with the side-cases on, such as those seen in Sebspeed's photos. If so, I'll bet that the side-case on the affected side quickly broke loose and was later found a ways back from where the motorcycle finally came to a stop, since the side-case attachment points to the metal case-brackets are merely thin pieces of plastic.

I once low-sided a 2007 BMW K1200GT while it's stock side-cases and top-case were mounted on the motorcycle, and when the bike finally came to a stop, all 3 cases had let go and were laying in the vicinity of where the bike first went down. They popped right off, and the Beemer's side- and top-case attachment points were a bit more robust than the flimsier ones on my 2007 VFR.

If you think that the VFR's stock side-cases will remain firmly attached to their mounting bracket attachment points during a low-side, and that they will reliably remain intact to serve as a sort of rear-frame slide protectors in the event of a crash, I think you're deluding yourself. In fact, just based on how much you can wiggle and move the VFR's attached side-cases when the motorcycle is merely parked, I'll further bet that a good swift kick (wearing motorcycle boots of course) to either the front or rear ends of these side-cases will likely be more than enough force to knock them loose or even send them flying.

Again, think about it... the only things keeping these cases attached to their metal mounting brackets are a few small pieces of flimsy plastic. If you want side bags that are most likely to remain attached to your bike in the event of a crash, you might do better to avoid the stock hard-shell cases all together in favor of soft bags that are strapped down onto the motorcycle with lots of high tensile strength nylon webbing.

On a different note, I'm wondering why so many male riders here seem to so competitively view and equate the narrowness of their 'chicken strips' as being a sort of objective measure and proof of one's skills, prowess, and willingness to undertake riding maneuvers that involve risk or danger.

Are we to think that the degree of narrowness of one's 'chicken strips' amounts to being a sort of symbol that's inversely proportional to, and a direct reflection of one's penis/testicle size and self-perceived masculinity? Furthermore, does this exercise in male prowess and hubris (e.g., achieving the narrowest of 'chicken strips') send the right message to newer riders, particularly young riders?

Indeed, the whole concept of, and the actual meaning and implications of the slang term 'chicken strips', when firmly planted in the minds of new riders, is quite possibly an incitement for them to prematurely and recklessly ride beyond their abilities in an effort to misguidedly earn this dubious badge of distinction and bragging rights so as to begin measuring up with the big dogs.

    Food for thought. YMMV.

Well...mine aren't stock and it wasn't in motion. It was dropped in a garage by the previous owner. I'll have to email him and see if the cases popped off. They did sustain quite a bit of damage however which leads me to think that they didn't pop off. They're the GIVI E21 Side Case and were on the Wingrack 2 mounting system.

The bottom brackets look pretty sturdy to me too...
