Hello, I'm new here. I currently ride an '84 Shadow 700, and I've been thinking about getting a sport-touring bike. I recently came across an ad for a '93 VFR750F for $1700. The plastics are busted from a drop at 20 mph, but the ad says the damage is only to the plastics and the bike runs great.

Since this isn't a motorcycle I'm familiar with, I was wondering if there are any particular problems I should keep an eye out for, particularly problems this model may be notorious for? Does the price seem reasonable?

I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance.

    Price

I do love the third gen but if you buy it must be at a VERY good price. The body parts a made of pure unobtainium so price must reflect the hassle to repair or replace.

I say the price is right on that gen 3. Toe Cutter is right about parts. A little bondo, JB weld and ouside the box thinking can go a long way though...

Although they hard to find, I would not say unobtainable. I currently have a 93 and I love it. My fairings have minor damage from a previous owner as well. service honda sells replacement fairings, cheapest I found. How many miles does it have?

What is the mileage on the bike? Just keep in mind that used parts will be pretty hard to find for 3rd Gens and the cost of new parts can be very expensive. If you end up having to replace many parts on the bike you might spending more on parts than the bike is worth. I personally think it is one of the sharpest looking VFR's out there.

1700? if it runs good and it's just plastic you best buy it before some other smart dude does, plastic is around, you just need patience and perseverance. Those are getting hard to come by and getting to be one of the elite VFRs

It has 22K miles. I plan on taking a look at it today, hopefully it hasn't been sold yet. Thanks for the replies, I'll post back when I know more.

One other thing I was curious about... I noticed it had a V-4 instead of the more common I-4 or even V-2. Any advantages/disadvantages to this type of engine? First thing that comes to my mind is that the "rear" cylinders on V engines probably run hotter, but I don't know what the repercussions of this are.

Man the engine is great, you eill not have problems with that...22k miles?? Its almost new!!!!

The only problem i think its the R/R...but thats a minor problem, some guys apply a fan to cool it down!

Besides the 4th gen to me its one of the most beautifull VFR's, if not the most beautifull at leats in the form/function (sport tourer) aspect. And i own a RC36II thats the model that came after that bike.

    What more can i say?

Wellcome from far far away, and may the force V4 be with you! Soon i hope!

    Greetings from Portugal!

I paid $3500 for my '93 last summer, but it only had 15K miles on it and it was virtually flawless except a couple of scuffs on the right side fairing that are not very noticeable. I've added a Ricks R/R and a Hindle Slip-on and she runs like a top.

that looks well worth 3500 zerks. this is what mine looked like when i got it
    [IMG]
right side tail fairing is almost cracked in half. couple more fairing cracks in various places. PO put racing clip-ons on it and they were so low and forward they hit the gauge cluster leaving a lot of nicks in it. i also had to get new tires as soon as i got it.

Both of those are very nice bikes! I have a 93 as well and mine has a bit of cosmetic damage. Other than the R/R acting up right now, waiting on the new R/R to get here, she run's flawless. Sad to say, I am going to have to sell her though, my job is dead slow and needing to cut back on bills. :frown:

Well crap, he already worked out a deal with someone else. Unless it falls through (the guy only made a down payment), looks like I won't be getting the bike.

Yeah, I just recently, august 08, got a new VTX. Really different from the vfr but I like it. Honda out here has a brand new 07 vfr with the abs. Candy Red too! I am not a huge fan of the RWB scheme.

Sorry to hear that man, where are you located at?
