Hello all, been living in south Florida for 20 years or so, originaly from Toronto, I love Florida but I miss the seasons and mountains not that we had any mountains in Ontario. my question to you folks who ride in BC is; how long is the riding season up there, I know it is the rainiest part of the country and I,m not expecting Florida like weather, on average though how much do you guys ride. I,m an avid rider, my current ride is an 02 VFR , I'm seriously thinking of moving to your neck of the woods. The last time I was in Vancouver was in the summer of 1988, oh yeah, those were the times when dudes sported pony tails:biggrin:. Thank you everyone.

Well, I live in the Okanagan Valley and generally ride for 8 months out of the year. Without spilling the beans too much, riding in BC is a bit of a secrect biker's paradise. I've ridden in many areas, and find it hard to beat the mountain region of the Kootenays in south-eastern BC. Our province is massive and you could literally spend the rest of your days riding here in utter bliss.

While I don't get to ride all year, I wouldn't trade my 8 months of riding for anywhere that you can ride for 12 months in.

Thank you for your reply. I would indeed be very happy with an 8 month riding season.

I now live in Ontario but I lived in North Vancouver for 7 years back in the late 80's, early 90's and I was able to ride the Lower Mainland from late March (with the occassional outing in February) through mid November (just too much rain at that time of year) In my experience it only very rarely got below 5 degrees C during the winter months in Vancouver. It really is the only sensible place to live in Canada.

I also used to live in Edmonton. You really couldn't count on getting your bike on the road anytime before mid May and you were off the road by early October. Not good.

Thank you for your insight guys, I agree that BC is probably THE place to live in Canada, I would much rather deal with rain no matter how much, than dealing with snow. I' getting ever closer here on making up my mind.

I rode down the Pacific Coast highway a few times while I was living on the "wet" coast just into northern California and that's some mighty fine riding too.

Now I enjoy the Adirondack "hills" versus the coastal mountains. It'll never replace BC but the riding in the Adirondacks and the Catskills, PA, The Dragon, is still pretty good. The season's just too short.

    BC Riding Comments

Just joined this site, great source of VFR information and fellow riders.
About BC riding, don't forget that BC goes from the only true desert in Canada to the True North and everything in between.
I live on Vancouver Island and have ridden year round for a long long time. Grew up here, traveled the world and happened to re-visit and wondered why I had ever left.
Best climate in Canada, Victoria gets less than half the rainfall of Vancouver or Seattle.
Lots of great back roads and a huge bike community, always has been.
Adrenaline Motorcycle Co-op is a local innovation that has hundreds of members.
Plus we get on & off first on the ferries.
Our pubs are legendary and the food incredible.

I agree that BC is a great place to ride, grew up riding & lived on vancouver island for 30 years, it hasd a year round riding season. Living on the mainland has shortened that riding season from about march to nov, although with exception of this year the last few have seen great riding of road. Love it here
