I have a 1993 VFR. I have been considering jumping to a newer model. After doing some research, I read that several people that make the jump are not satisfied with the newer models complaining that honda "Tamed them down." I was wondering if anyone has made the jump and noticed anything of that type of nature or maybe wasn't satisfied after they made the jump.

The "tamed" down stuff, which we've all heard, is really a lot of glossy cover type stuff, due in large part to the VFR's evolution away from a pure sport bike and into something more street practical. In actuality the VFR has received incrementally more horsepower with every generation since your own. I think maybe what is happening with some of those articles is that the writer is desiring/expecting the newer pure sport bike, which is actully closer to a track bike, and isn't quite sure what the VFR is supposed to be about.

That said I would wait to see what happens with the 2010 model year.

Well...History would suggest not, however I believe that 2010 will be the make or break year for our beloved bikes. That is to say a new model or a dicontinuence of the line. There are some subtle clues (coming from Honda this time ) that suggest a new model is a....Maybe!

They made a 2009 model, I found a few at different dealers, well at least online. Eventually, I want to get another sport bike to put next to my cruiser. I had my eye on several but keep coming back to VFR's. I love my 93 so I figured why not try a newer one. Wasn't sure if I would be disapointed after riding my 3rd gen or not.

ive never ridden a newer gen, but from sitting on them at the dealer i can tell theyre are much more touring oriented. if i did get one i would probably put lower clip-ons and different rear sets on it. but then i thought the stock bars on my 93 were too upright also.

I've gone from a 2nd Gen, to a 5th Gen, to a 6th Gen and have no complaints. I think the bike has evolved gradually with time. It is a very refined package.

Honda did make a "new" model for 09 but it is essentially the same bike as every other model since 02. What Crustyrider and I are discussing is the likelihood of a completely revamped model for 2010. 1000cc's, more sporty, less sporty, no one knows...

If you do your own maintenance, the 6th Gen is more labor intensive for valve clearance inspection & brake fluid replacement than a 4th.

Ah, I got ya. I didn't know the 09 was essentially the same model.

Honda has been dragging their feet on this one for quite a while now. Year after year has brought on new speculation and flat out lies from some publications in regards to a remodeled VFR. If you google '09 VFR images you'll find many pics (photo chopped of course) of the bike that never was. It just seems to me that 2010 has an air of legitimacy to it that previous years didn't.
Still, you won't find many people holding their breath.
