After weeks of yoga training over the winter, I hold the front brake and strrrrretch my other hand down until my fingertips brush the road then balance on my index finger and thumb.

Sometimes when I do this it draws funny looks so a lot of the time I just do the Jedi thing like the other guys do but just hover my foot over the ground so as not to give it away.

Ditto, for some reason I feel like I have a bit more control in case a flailing cage comes my way.

it looks like some people are comenting on which foot stay on too. like i said i always land on my left, but whether or not the left stays there greatly depends on a lot of different factors.

I was getting that impression too. After the initial stop, with left foot as not to draw attention, i usually put both down to stretch a bit and adjust, well you know...

I always stop with my left foot, but if I can see that I'll be stopped for more than a few seconds, and there is already enough stopped traffic around/behind me to feel safe(can't be too cautious the way cagers drive around here...), I'll drop both feet.

I'm quite tall, so my legs are still bent at the knee when I'm flat footed. It makes it quite easy to let go of the handlebars and sit up straight if I need a quick rest. With the long legs, came long arms, so I may have to try vfourbears trick...but as for the jedi stuff, I've got much to learn! :ninja:

My politics lean to the right, so.........right foot down.

Actually, most of the time left foot down first, but if it's a long intersection light,
then the right goes down and the gear goes into neutral, and of course, only after
the car behind me has stopped.

In Kalifornia we have to watch for deep potholes so that has to be a consideration also.

I saw on the Detroit news channel the other day that Michigan roads were rated the 3rd worst in the country. California was right behind us at #4. I feel your pain. At least most of you don't have to deal with freeze/thaw cracks and 6inch wide mini-faults between highway lanes. I'll have to get a camera mount and show case some of the crappy roads we have to offer lol.

I usually stop with right foot down. This allows me to put the bike in neutral with the left, and click it into gear before I take off without moving my left foot off the pegs. I brake with the front brake and the rear just a little before I stop, but with this bike, it's not necessary to use the rear.

    Cheers
    John.

I never have to put my foot down at stops. My bike is setup to bake cupcakes while I ride and when they are done, they pop out the exhaust... they are so tasty that I have people following me for miles waiting for me to stop. When I do, they all run over and hold my bike up for me in the hopes that I will give them some of my VFR cupcakes!!

Ha both, then again none, I have done the see how long I can balance the beast, most of the time it's not thought of, just happens, stopping with being on tip toes, or? like a many here just depends on the conditions at the moment, no real either way. then there's depending on tide action and what position the moon is in, is it warm or hot, wet or dry. earthquake or wind storm too. to many variables

Brings new meaning to the term "hot foot". Wait, is that really a term or is that just my mind playing tricks on me again?
