    +1 on the pics........

For the record, she is going to build credit much faster by using (and paying on monthly) credit cards than she will with an auto/motorcycle loan.

theres only one right answer here, a ninja 250.

i had mine for about a year and 10k miles. its a perfect first bike. and with someone that small it would be even better.

I've seen a couple girls of about his girlfriend's description riding stuff upwards of 600cc's around here.

I however agree that the ninja 250 would be a fantastic choice.

Her first was a '82 k-305 that she quickly blew up on a 160 mile trip I told her was a bad idea on the little thing. then a 600 shadow vlx, she had a back surgery and the forward controls killed her. That and the 4 speed just sucked. She is now on a '92 gen 3. (stand by for pics of her with that bike when I get it set up & repainted for the season and hook her up with the photogapher)

The Kawi 250 is a good choise, but its still kinda full sized. Take her to a Dealer and see if she can sit on it and get her feet on the floor, or at least the balls of her feet.

The Ninja 250 is a fine little toy, but be prepared for well-known chronic valve adjustment problems.....

I have for sale a much better 250 toy, a 1988 VTR 250 Interceptor that has just finished a winter going-over in depth and super cleaning. This little beauty is faster than the Ninja, and because it has much more torque (V-twin) is more fun to ride without constant gear shifting.

Has only 1200 miles since new, lightly crashed by new rider in 1992 and stored since then.

Now restored and ready for her first test ride and mounting of bodywork as soon as we get some days of good weather....

This is the perfect beginner bike !!
    (And not far from Cleveland)

Another great beginner bike for shorter/smaller person is the Honda NT 650 Hawk.....if she can get YOU off it !

Awesome 250, Squirrelman. Be a perfect bike for our 16 year old daughter. Youngtown area here. but she has become a cafe bike snob since she has been surfing the net.

I guess everyone's for the Ninja 250. We have been to the dealer and she fits perfect on it. She is planning on having it at home before the end of the month. I will post pics then, with her on it. Thanks everyone for the insight and all your opinions.

I am sending my girlfriend to the riding safety class. After she has her endorsement she will be riding my 04 Honda CB 599 Hornet. It is a good bike to begin with. That is what I started on. She is 5'5" and she can reach the ground on this bike.

They are all booked up until August already. She has her enrollment form and should have mailed it off today. I think she'll be fine. We'll see I guess.

When we were looking into a bike for my girlfriend most people told us that a 250 is basically a one year bike so that is why she will be riding the 599. We signed her up for the safety class a couple of months ago and she will not be taking her class till the middle of May.

WAx just going to throw that out there. look for an older model something she'll more than likely grow out of faster than you'd think nija 250 to me is over rated has a dreaded valve issue with a many, was also going to say that NT659 hawk is a cool way to go, that and look for old asscot FT or Vt 500 smart bike easy on the pocket book if you get really creative I'd look for a RD400, there's lots of cool beginners bike when you get past the new thing.. LOL even a Vf500 would do here.

Can you get her on a dirtbike for some basics? The stats on newbie riders aint pretty. In the mean time take her gear shopping. I wish you the best.

no access at the moment for a dirt bike. I might be able to get my hands on a little 50 from a friend but its gonna have to wait till we're back on regular shifts. Already been looking for gear. The two dealerships we've been to had to special order jackets to fit her so we're still looking. Not in a big hurry.

If you guys do any traveling, come down to Columbus and go to Iron Pony. They've got about EVERYTHING gear wise that should fit her. They are also now the home of "Yamaha of Columbus" as well.

I'm not too far from there, and it's a HUGE store! It's like going to Home Depot, I could spend hours there...

Usually not a good idea to put a new rider on a brand new bike with expensive plastic bodywork, especially a rider not fluent with manual gear shifting......

but love makes us do silly things, right??
