I'm coming to this forum because the Kawasaki Forum is worthless.

I have an old single piston 350cc dirt bike that I just restored...almost. I got everything put back together and went to kick it and ran into the following problems.

    1) If it starts it tops out the rpms, though the throttle cable isn't stuck.

    2) The spark plug (and cylinder) become quite saturated in gas/oil.

    3) Most of the tme it's like kicking a dead horse without even a sputter.

P.S. In all instances the choke is not used or used and ineffective.

Sounds like the carb slide is stuck in the full up position. That would explain the fouled plugs when it won't start and the WFO when it does start. Pull the top off the carb and check it out. A little carb cleaner should loosen it up. I imagine this is a CV type carb and the throttle is connected to the butterfly and not directly to the slide.

may also be too high a fuel level bcuz of improper float level setting, thus flooding the engine with excess fuel.

if not float level setting ....it could be debris lodged in seat of float needle preventing it from closing fully.

If the cable actuates the slide itself, make sure the slide isn't in backwards.

I'm going to agree with the slide being a suspect.

Not trying to be insulting, but are the jets the correct #?

    KC-10 FE out...

if its not a carb problem it could be an air leak. just a thought.

is this a two stroke or four?

It's a 2-stroke and the throttle cable is connected directly to the slide (no butterfly valve). I'm going put a new carb kit in it and check the float clearances. Also the slide is notched out so it only goes in one way.

WOW!! That is an old one. It pretty much has to be a stuck slide, that's the only thing I can think of that will cause the engine to run WFO when started. It has to be getting too much fuel. If that slide stays down you don't go anywhere.
