So I'm looking to add some slip ons to my stock 6th gen VFR and would love to hear some insight from you all. I know exhaust is about personal preference so here's 'mine':

    1. Price, looks and sound most important
    2. I like a deep, throaty V4 growl and don't want to be waking the neighbors 2 blks away, but love a good sounding aftermarket exhaust
    2. Have narrowed down to LV, 2BROS, Remus systems based on above

My question is this - I don't plan on adding a Power Commander anytime in the near future, quite possibly, ever (due to $$). Which exhaust will keep my bike the running smoothest without the addition of this component. I may add an aftermarket filter but that's probably it. I've heard of the 02 eliminator mod but am not 100% clear on this, it's cost, pros and cons. Would consider as well if it worked well w/ the exhaust/filter mod and still allowed my bike to pass emissions.

    Thanks!
    Jason

Haha..suppose I could be persuaded. Seriously, who is the branding genius that came up with "STAINtunes"? You don't have to have a marketing degree to know that there's a definite negative conotation with the word 'stain'. I digress...

I'm also not big on the chrome look at all. Not sure why they don't offer them in various finishes..if so I'd be all over them. They DO sound nice I'll admit that.

Ok Scubalong, so my question applied to Staintunes - Would I need a PC to go along with it or could I run smoothly w/out?

    Thanks

    Honestly.............

 GW, Some peoples do and some don't. I myself the first few months I did not have PC III until last week I put them on and it sure do the job. The bike run a lot leaner no jurking or slack.........just my 2 cents. However there are cans that reasonable price and sound good as well (Scorpion around $599.00 or less) But then you are does not like chrome. Hummmmmm
In that case go for Leo they come in Carbon (Around $799.00 or less).....hope this help.

GW, BTW if money is an issue......You can gut your stock exhaust and it does sound great. No PC III require :) This is a low budget project and it fun.

Leo Vince Carbon...period. Great sound, not too loud, easy install, no jetting necessary.

im with silver on this one. I have LV carbons and they are AMAZING. Although I should mention that I am not using the baffles, I have a BMC air filter and a PCIII. But still, DAMN they sound good!

They have my vote, I think the Carbon look is bitchin on these bikes.

    GW,
I have a 2Bros VALE system and a BMC filter. I've been running this set up for about three years with no problems. Smooth throttle response and no PCIII or O2 Elems. I am probably going to get a PCIII to try and get a little more power but I've been holding off because I really have not seen any problems. You can see some pics in my gallery. In case you didn't know on the 2bro's system only one exhaust can is active. Turns some people off, some say it makes a little more power.

Funny you should say that...way ahead of you, have a gutted pair on their way to me as we speak

I agree they sound great, cheap mod. But the aftermarket options look so much better.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys...now to just save up the bucks!

I can testify to the awesome sound of Scubalong's Staintunes. I have a two bros slip-on on my 5th gen. Sounds great. I have a K&N filter and no Power commander- don't want a decrease in my mpgs. Remus makes great pipes. You really can't go wrong with any of them, but most of the VFRs I see have two bros.

I love my carbon Leo's. Sound good, look good and easy to install. Glad I decided to go with Leo's instead of another slip on. Got a good deal too.

I suppose since I started the thread I should update - I went with the Two Bros for several reasons:

    1. Price - Got a much better deal on these than I could on the Carbon Leo's
    2. Looks - I've always wanted an exhaust with the tapered, modern design of the Two Bros (The Leo's are not bad looking, just a close second). Frankly I don't know why more mfrs dont offer more styles like this for the VFR. Guess perhaps due to the more 'mature' demographic for the VFR, but hey, even if you're 'older' you can still appreciate great design!

Sure, I don't like the fact one is not functional, but when you're riding you don't notice and 95% of people out there, other riders included, don't know either. Install was super simple and I LOVE the sound. When I first fired it up (w/out baffles, of course) I was shocked as it was quite loud. Course, I figured this was due in part to the fact I was so used to the quiet stockers.

Get out and ride it and you feel like you're on a different bike though, not so much from the power increase (which I'm sure is minimal) but the sound alone. This things sounds F'n MEAN.

Hey Wings, I've been running a VALE for most of my bikes life and have been impressed with it. The 2 Bros. is somewhat lighter than the other systems and also ,in my opinion, looks the best. According to 2 Bros. the VALE also adds a few more pounds of torque based on the 4 into 1 design.

If you think you like the sound now, wait untill you've put about 1000 miles on them. Smooth, deep, just the right amount of DB, and a scosh of sparking during decel, just enough to add some charachter.

You won't need a power commander wih the FI VFR's. The FI system will automatically ritchen due to the decreased back pressure (which is the reason you need to adjust the jet sizes in a carb'd bike).

That reminds me, You won't be needing an o2 elim. unless you get the PCIII.
The eliminators aren't really a mod as much as they are a needed addition to a PCIII. All they really accomplish is to block out the bikes' ECU and allow the PCIII to do its' thing without interference. Vfr's do not get along with a power commander without them.

My bike came with Sta-in-Tunes & KN air filter. The exhaust is very nice sounding, and the chrome finish is nice. Personally, Im not a chrome fan, but I'll live with these pipes for the meantime. I think the 2 Bros 4-1 system is nice, esp. the dummy storage pipe idea is very clever.

WW, Perhaps you could share a soundclip?

I'll work on it but it may be a week or so...in laws are in town (yippee!).

I will say this..I listened to every VFR/Two Bros clip/video I could find before buying. NONE of them come close to the real thing.
