Hah, I know that I left myself open on that but im sure it gor your attention.
Here is the deal guys, someone a@@wipe stole my dipstick when my bike was parked in a public place. SO now I am grounded until I get another. I called the local bike recycler and they have a big bucket full of dipsticks. So I need to take in the diameter of the hole, and determine if the threads are course or fine. I also dont want to accidentaly buy the right size plug, but get the wrong size stick... that could be very bad if I didnt have an accurate way to gauge my oil level.
So could someone with a 85 vf700f kindly send me the best possible picture of your disptick?
Thanks in advance guys! ( and ladies if there are any out there )

No matter what filler cap you get, don't trust the dip stick marks, until you can compare it to a stock one (the full / empty levels might not pertain to your bike).....Monk

    1. Buy a rubber cork from the hardware store and ride the bike to the recycler.
    2. Find a dipstick with the proper seal and threads, don't worry about the length yet.
    3. Ride the bike home still using the cork.
    4. Drain your oil and refill using the proper amount minus one quart.
5.Insert new dipstick and use a file to mark the level of the oil. This will be the "one quart low" mark.
    6. Add the last quart and again mark this level with a file. This will be your "Full" mark.

You'll know when you try the new dipstick if it is too long or too short. If too short find another dipstick, if too long you can cut the end off after you mark the "Low" and "Full" marks. If it is too long and you can't screw it in, cut it off a little at a time until it fits. then make your marks.

That is exactly what I am going to do ( minus the riding part ). I have alternative transportation, otherwise I would follow your instructions to the "t". I will buy the stick that I think is mine, but use your advice to verify the stick. I can believe that the solution was that logical, you friggin rock!!!!

unrelated, ,is your handle "maggot" a slipknot referance?

Sorry to say no reference to Slipknot. I hung around years ago with a bunch of guys and we were known as the "Maggots" (Mid seventies) To this day we still refer to eachother as "Maggot"! Glad I was able to help. That's what this forum is all about. BTW your bike looks great. Thanks for the pictures.

you should swap the side cover with a VF750S because on those you don't need a stick; it has a sight glass. that is if it fits.....

They probobly would fit as far as I know the differance is bor and stroke, not block. but on my older bike I got bigger fish to fry, and fry they will cause I will be overheating soon if I dont get my fan switch sorted out!
