I wouldnt use a full aluminum sprocket. Even though there is some weight savings to be had i couldnt picture it lasting to long. I have seen two peice sprokets where they are mostly aluminum and then steel teeth bolt on. i think that would be a good idea on another bike, just not ours. Last time i did a sproket kit it was from:

    Street Applications - Sprocket Center

I went with the D.I.D chain... it was the gold series, it looked awesome but was a bitch keeping it clean.

DO NOT BUY ALUMINUM. (ask me how I know - or see picture below)

    Useless unless you're racing.

You can however buy the Stealth Sprockets from Sprocket Center that use hardened steel for the teeth mounted to an aluminum center/mount.

Buy a steel sprocket, cheaper up front, and cheaper in the long run. Who'd of thought?

Chains: EK (Enuma Chain Co) or DID. Size...well length is 108-112 links depending on year/gearing. I've always bought 120 link chains(pretty much the standard) and cut them to length(110 links for me IIRC) when I'm ready to install.

Sprocket Specialists or the Sprocket Center can hook you up with either.

This is why I'll never use aluminum ever again. (Before y'all flame me, I ran it down this low on purpose. I was tracking how fast it wore, and wanted to see how far you could make it before it failed. FYI lasted 8 months only! It failed big time too...lost 19 teeth in a row out of 45 teeth in one single hour long ride.)

I just replaced my chain & sprockets last week. The entire process, including running to the garden hose to rinse the break-free out of my eye, took about 65 minutes.

I went to the local dealer I buy my parts from & asked what my options were. The best deal was the OEM direct replacement kit from RK. It comes with a 108 link chain with rivet master link & 2 steel sprockets. Both the sprockets are noticably lighter than stock. The chain is a RK XSO. The whole thing was $160 after tax. The best part is the entire kit is warrantied for 20000 miles of street use. This complete kit was less than just the DID XW-Ring chain I wanted.

This is one area where cheaping out makes no cents.

Get the premium stuff, and don't be tempted to use a smaller chain.

Aluminum sprockets will wear out 3-4 times quicker than steel.

    I'll tell you anyway.

My neighbor let me use his lift. When I had the whole thing apart, I was using shop rags to clean the 9 years of accumulated gunk out of the countershaft sprocket area. He has this nifty little sprayer you can load with any solvent/liquid you want & then pressurize with air to create gunk killing spray. To loosen the gunk, we used break-free since I didn't have enough WD40. First pull of the trigger, right in my eyes it goes. Let me tell you, petroleum based products & contact lenses DO NOT mix. Yes I should have been wearing safety glasses but I wasn't; lesson learned. I will say this, the counteshaft area is now clean as a whistle, I can assure you.
