    Hello-

I just got done installing a center stand on my '98. The bike didn't come with one, but I was able to find one used here on VFRWorld.com.

I struggled with getting the extension springs on for about 1/2 hour before finding an easy way to do it: Install the springs on the stand and pivot plate first, then hang the pivot plate on the bike. Finally install the stand bolts, left side followed by right. It was MUCH easier than trying to stretch those springs with the stand installed.

It may be obvious to those with more mechanical experience, but since it wasn't to me I wanted to pass on what I learned.

Someone mentioned flexing the spring and inserting pennies in the spaces to extend it prior to installation. Then they could be pulled out after everything is in place. Have not seen it done, but sounds like a half way decent idea.

I didn't weigh it before installing, but it didn't seem like much at all . I'd say maybe 2 lb or so.

Another way is to buy a spring puller made for the job. You can get them from Cycle Gear $8 or, even from Harbor Freight (#95757)$4. It looks like a miniature hay hook.
