So my wife got her "new to her" 06 VFR800 2 weeks ago now, and has been "begging" me to get out and ride at every moment. (Oh darn.)
2 nights ago, she decided to slice deep into her finger, with a resulting 4 stitches required to close it up. Her first comment was something like "well, it's only my clutch hand, I can make do...." but she was told to keep away from the bike for a few days. I don't think I have seen her this frustrated, since I put a red shop rag in with her laundry.
She is hoping, really hoping, that she will be good to go tomorrow though......stitched up finger or not.

I will tell you, she is totally in love with this bike. Within 10 minutes of her first ride, she knew it was her.......and couldn't believe she rode a cruiser for so long before making the switch. That, and now she is happy that I can't leave her in the dust when I twist the throttle anymore.

    cheers.

I wish my girlfriend would ride, the she might understand my level of involvement. Though, she says she's more content on the back of mine, which isn't the end of the world.

She needs to listen to the doc. Otherwise she may find out she has to prolong her time away from the bike.

Put a splint on the effected finger and have her work the clutch a few times. If it is not bothersome, take her out on a leisurely ride to quench her thirst. The splint will keep the stitches in place.

    Poppycock!

You said she only sliced 1 finger. She has 3 other fingers to pull the clutch in with. Adjust the clutch lever in closer to the bar so she can grab it easier.

You give women to little credit. These creatures are NOT the little buttercups we want to think they are. THEY are the ones that give birth to our children. If it were up to us guys, humans would have been extinct thousands of years ago.

You're wife is a motorcycle rider, first and foremost. She wants to be out riding. If it was ANY other guy here, you know damn well we'd ALL be out on the bike the very next day, modifying the bike in any way so we could ride. We'd have to be in a coma to not ride!

Why fight the addiction. Most guys fight with their significant others about NOT riding. Feed the addiction and twist the throttle.

So here's a question (and I did try searching first, but to no avail)
Do you guys and gals recommend synthetic oil for you VFR's? And what grade of fuel do you all generally recommend?

    Cheers.

Carlo, I use synthetic oil in all 3 bikes and I made the switch at the first oil change (600 miles). You know there will be many differing opinions on this one, but after much research, that is what my decision was. I haven't had any problems on any bike yet. I usually use Amsoil, but did use Mobil 1 last time on the VFR, I didn't realize I didn't have enough left in the case.
As for the fuel, the manual recommends anything over a pump octane rating of 86 unleaded. I always go by what the manual recommends for fuel, as long as there is no ping or knock, why pay for premium if you don't need to.

I say let her ride. You only need the clutch when moving of and stopping. I've watched a guy RACE a bike with one leg!

A wife that rides?! Whats that?

You have been blessed. My wife thinks anyone that rides a motorcycle has a screw or two loose.... If she can work the clutch without using her bad finger, then I say let the girl ride!

Got some great memories of riding two-up with various girlfriends back in 'the day' ....a centerstand is good for more than just holding your bike up, let me tell you....
