I will be heading down from the hills via Hwy 70 and dropping into Sac Town on 99. There are a few of you that I talked about meeting up with near Rio Linda. From there we will slab 80 to the 101 to Atascadero.

Anyone wanting to join up on Thursday morning for the ride in, speak up. I figure on hitting Sacramento between 10 and 11. See the link below for the visual learners in the group.

It is only 6 weeks away, sheesh.
I do get excited. I also like to have a good idea what I am getting myself into if I can help it.
I also like to give people time to commit, back out, whine, change plans, and quit the forum.(Based on past experience).

So from up our way so far we have:

    OK drewl followers!
Reg has asked me to let you all know that sleeping spots are going fast.
Yalls need to PM him or check out the sleeping chart in the Reggie's Roundup thread and claim a spot. If you are planning on hotel-ing it, would you let me know that also? That way we can keep track of everyone and no one will miss out on the MADNESS!!!!

also, I just wanted to put in a plug here for not getting any CHP awards on the way down. It would dampen your mood, and I promise I won't move the house if you get here 30 min later than if you had been riding 90 mph rather than 80...

let's just say I know from past experience and leave it at that...shall we?

I was looking at your route plan and I was thinking that 80->680->101 might save you a little time. Did you run both ways on google maps to compare time? That way you skip Oaktown and the Bay area altogether and hook back onto the 101 by San Jose, or are you picking up stragglers in SF Bay? Anyway, just a suggestion. I used to live in Walnut Creek and that way seemed a little better maintained than 880 and less traffic than 101 S from SF.

I just looked at that route last night, reg. It cuts 40 miles off at least, not to mention the traffic time. Good tip.

It looks like I may take 5 south of Sac Town and cut over to Salinas through Hollister. Roughly the same mileage, but cuts out Bay and San Jose traffic. We'll just have to fight the semi's for a few miles.

    Input?

I started to suggest it but I thought you were going over toward Davis for some reason. If you want you can stay on 25 from hollister running south. it's a little longer but more scenic and fun and there is rarely chp out that way. you guys would love the road. i take it sometimes for a change when i come back from the bay area. there are several places where if you get tired of it you can head west and jump on the 101.

I looked at it and it adds 20 minutes over just going on out to 101, BUT if you just stay on 5 (as bad as it is) all the way to kettleman city, it cuts 30-40 minutes off the total trip... 4:39 from sac to a-town using I-5, 5:13 cutting over to 101, and adding Hwy 25 at Hollister adds it up to a whoppin 5:44 so it really depends on what you are looking for... If you do take I-5 then 41S stay on 41 S all the way to atown instead of going over to paso. it is only 2 minutes diff and hwy 41 is way fun and it comes right to my house almost... this is that way I-5 to 41 to my house: from:sacramento to:I-5 S to:I-5 S to:35.559043,-120.482941 to:5360 ensenada ave 93422 - Google Maps

this is the way through hollister and hwy 25: from:sacramento to:I-5 S to:36.408021,-120.991058 to:CA-41/Creston Shandon Rd to:5360 ensenada ave 93422 - Google Maps

and this is the way you were talking about cutting across to 101: from:sacramento to:I-5 S to:36.498597,-121.425018 to:CA-41/Creston Shandon Rd to:5360 ensenada ave 93422 - Google Maps

    The path

I will not complain about the path we take ,but it would be better to avoid bay area traffic if possible. If it is ..... moist....(I dont want to say the r word) it would be less than enjoyable to be in traffic of that quality.
