Seriously stay with a stock Honda filter! The K&N filter is smaller in size and just doesn't do the job I have tried and compared both! Where the K&N allows more air through the actual filter it is very much smaller in size. I just find a brand new stock Honda filter is the way to go!

This subject has been brought up a lot. I actually have the K&N filter, but that's only because it was in my bike when I bought it. I'm looking to switch to BMC in the spring though.

The choices: Stock OEM, K&N, or BMC. K&N is designed to have similar flow to the stock filter, hence the smaller filter surface area due to their material's higher flow rate. BMC on the other hand keeps a similar size surface area to the stock filter but uses a higher flow rate material than stock.

I'm used to "uni" being sea urchin sushi, but in the filter world, I have no experience with them. I thought foam filters were more for off road applications because of the increased levels of dust/dirt they see and I thought that's where these perform better to other filters after being dirtied. For street bikes though...no idea. I haven't seen any air flow rate comparisons so no comment there.

Found this little comparison article from AMS Oil...I trust their products but they are expensive. Take a look.

Stay away from the K+N, and I like the Unifilter. To me, foam filters are the best.

Thanx all for your inputs. Yhea, I realize we're beating a dead horse here but I just wanted some quick inputs. Soundmaster31, that's a really interesting clip on AMS oil filters, looks like they may be the way to go if you wanna spend that kind of money for an air filter. Well for me it's a toss up - either stay stock or BMC. I'll just have to wait and see how much change I'm gonna have after I get new rubbers also. Thanx again all.

Here's my perspective...anyone of these flows enough air for a stock airbox and engine. I tend to trust the filtration of the OE filter more, and you can't beat the "fit and finish". That's worth the small bit of extra money for something you don't need to mess with for another 20K miles or so.

I purchased a K&N because now I just clean, oil and reinstall. No more ordering in filters from dealer at pretty much same cost as the K&N. Intake sound increased tremendously....or maybe thats because I removed the snorkle.

I read somewhere once that the only time a stock filter beats the flow of a K&N (or probably any other oiled type filter) is when it's brand new and that once it gets slightly dirty the aftermarket filters are better PLUS you only have to pay for them once. For me it comes down to being a cheap bastard, if I can save a few bucks and literally not be able to tell the difference, why would I even consider buying a brand new filter every single time. I ride way too much for that. If I only changed it one every year or two, then maybe, but probably not. I'd probably still go with the K&N. They have been in business way too long to be making an inferior product.
