Ok so on my 85 vf500 the po deleted the fuel pump I'm assuming because it was siezed. So now I've got the bike running and idleing good but it won't pull past 6000rpm it also seems down on power. Could this be because the lack of the fuel pump. Is there a proper way to delete it or is it nessisary to run?

I would say if the factory had one there it's needed. Not necessarily true with some smog stuff, but fuel pumps and such yes. I'm actually suprised you can pull to 6k w/o it.

The fuel pump is not needed. search the forums plenty of posts about it. your issue sounds like its coming from a blocked fuel vent in the tank cap.

I removed the fuel pump on mine, went to a slightly larger diameter fuel line and it revs to 10,000 just fine (it most likely would go to redline but I don't like to run it that high).

I think you give up some fuel capacity by running gravity feed, but the bike gets such good mileage it hasn't been a problem for me.

You might check in over at the sabre/magna forum, those guys are pretty helpful with the older V4s.

Here's some of the troubleshooting from the service manual:

Could be ripped diaphrams, clogged jets, or float height set incorrectly. Time to get into the carbs.

Worked on a CB750F this summer that did the same thing. Make some new 7mm plug wires and put some new plugs in it. Twenty five year old wires do break down.

its a crank case pressure, if you follow it it will lead to a pvc, to vent the crank case, there is also a little black box behind the battery empty that out it will get clogged from years of crap and blow-by.

unfortunately there wasnt one there, but i did find one that was clipped off running up along side of the battery box. And is that the lower vacuum port or upper port.
