Just got a ticket in the mail. Very irritating. Anybody have experience with the license plate covers or sprays that you see on the net?

Also, how about their legality. I'm in Missouri.

    Any information would be appreciated.

Do you have any links to the sites that sell this stuff? I'm a law abiding guy for the most part, but I do have a major and seemingly incurable problem when it comes to speed limits. I just do not like them (except in residential areas).

They don't work! Period. Myth Busters even did a show on them and the "spray" for plates. I did see one years ago that worked great. It was not a cover per sey. It had about 6 or so vertical metal slats the height of the plate. They were about 1 1/2" - 2" wide which stuck straight forward (perpendicular) to the plate. So if you looked at the front of the car straight on you would see the plate. Then as you walked to one side or the other, all you would see is the design painted on the vertical bars as one picture. So it was legal for Ohio because you can see it when approaching the car. Most cameras are on the side of the road. They won't be able to read the plate on an angle. You could throw mud on it and cover most of the numbers.

I think you should take a picture of $200.00 and mail the picture to them for payment.

I bought a plate cover, but I dirtied it from the inside, then mounted it.

From anything more than 3 feet back, you can't read my plate from any angle.

And I don't think its a crime to not clean your plate? So it works great for me :)

I saw an episode of CHiPs back in the day where a dude used electrical tape to change his tag... like adding the leg on the "P" to make and "R"

That guy was arrested, so maybe not such a great idea.

My GPS can load up where those "safety" cameras are, and you can plot them so you get a warning... Sorry about the ticket. I just paid mine when I got one last year on a ride... no points no fuss, just annoying.

Yeah Mythbusters showed that the plate reflectors dont' work.

Your best bet really is to fill out the form identifying the "real" driver. In georgia they give you a ticket and they have an option for giving the address/name of the real driver. Just give them a phony name/address. And no, they can't interrogate you or follow up with you on that.

they don't need to, in most places that use the cameras, a law has been passed to allow them to ticket the owner of the vehicle, unless the owner can say who it was instead, at least in CA the owner is ultimately responsible

I am an IT project manager in Vancouver, WA and we currently installing red light cameras. They ticket the vehicle owner unless you can prove who was driving...if they dont' admit to it, the vehicle owner is responsible. Not sure about other states, but in WA, the ticket is NOT considered a movinf violation...that was the only way they could get the state legislature to allow them. It is considered the same as a parking ticket...no points on your dirving record, nothing sent to insurance. As far as red light camera go...I don't have problem with them...so many cages run red lights and nearly kill me on my bike on a daily basis, if anything can get people to stop on red, I am all for it.

We don't have those cameras where I live but if the cameras are at a side angle like one of the earlier posts said, then I think my setup might have a chance.

Also, I have a buddy with a zx-6 that mounted his practically in front of his rear tire so you can barely see it. When I ride behind him I can only see the top halves of the numbers.
