not sure how diff it would feel (haven't done it) but i know u would get more acceleration if you took a tooth or 2 off the front and added to the rear sprocket ( ie; lower ratio) less top end more torque probably wheelee machine lol definitely lean fwd more!!!!!!!!

I am running 15/45 (-1 front) with my 520 conversion and I am happy with the difference in acceleration. I also enjoy the fact the bike turns a normal RPM on the expressway.

In fact, this is a better way to go on the V4's. "Gearing down" is only for those peaky inline fours, the V4 has enough grunt that it doesn't need that kind of gearing. I've found that a couple of teeth smaller on the rear (taller gearing) actually lets the V4 stretch it's legs out a bit and improves the overall street performance.

I've gone 15/45 on my 86 750 and it made all the difference in the world to me. You could keep it pinned for miles and never approach redline in top gear before I changed it. I like a final drive ratio range from somewhere between 2.80 - 3.00 on my stuff. Good top end with plenty of grunt down low. With the VFR it's 3.0

this thread is perfect timing chain and sprockets need replacing. was thinking of going up 2 on rear sprocket for more torque. Has any one done that on 6 gen ? you definitely don't need to go down 6th gear is to tall stock. was there really any gains or should i stay stock?

this past weekend at the show, and cursing around that small rear sprocket was pretty nice, it wasnt so tall that it was bogging the bike down all the time and it was pretty nice that i didnt have to shift all the time.

I've gone +2 on the rear with my 6th Gen. It is a slight improvement over stock. The next time around, I might try +3 or go -1 on the front. I think that the stock gearing is actually too tall.

I've gone +1 on the rear with my 2nd Gen. Again, it is an ever slight improvement. However, it is still better than stock. I think that stock gearing is typically too tall for any bike I've ever owned.

Chain length for 6th Gen with +2 on rear?

Did you have to increase the number of links in the chain for a +2 on the rear sprocket? I'm assuming that the small diameter change in a 43 to 45 doesn't do much to the overall length.

The +2 rear sprocket fit just fine using the stock chain. It did shorten it up a bit though, however, I think I could have gone +3 and still made it.

My 1000R is stock. The 2nd Gen I was referring to was my '86 750.
