I put my app in today for pre approval to finally purchase a VFR.

After lurking here for what seems an eternity...

I want a new one, but the black 2009 doesn't do it for me, at least in photos. In the dealership they had two new 25th Anniversary and two used red ones (Non ABS). An 04 I think and an 07 with 2K miles in perfect condition. I'm partial to Red .

Being in the middle of winter, what kind of breaks can I try for? I'm sure they are slow with sales.

This will be the first bike I've purchased for myself. I'm 41 and have rode friends bikes on and off. Mature rider who plays no games.

    Love these forums!

    HEEEYYYY FATY!,....

Welcome aboard mate. I must say I'm partial to the deep red. Candy Glory Red. I wouldn't buy the bike straight away. I'd act like I was kiiinda interested, well,...I've been thinking about about it,....But I'm really not sure,....gee I dunno. And just visit the shop and look at the bike about once every fortnight for a month or two.

I find this act works well. The salesman knows there's fleeting interest, and if he wants to snag you, he's gonna have to do a really good deal. Don't forget to throw in phrases like "My mate got a good deal on a Triumph Sprint,...He got the hard bags for free!. I'm thinking I might go with a Sprint"

Be a scouge!!!!!. You need to Financialy RAPE him. His just a little bitch! After all, Honda just pulled out of F1 they can afford to sell there bikes cheaper!.

I hope you get an awsome deal!

You did not mention the price so therefore can not tell you if it good or not. Give more details so maybe we can give you some opinion. Good luck

You should consider buying used. Other than different colors and the update to the ECU mapping in 2006, this bike really hasn't changed since 2002. I was able to get a 2006 with only 2,700 miles for $6,300, which is half the price. I saw another at the time with a few more miles and ABS that was going for $6800. It had only a few minor scratches on the right side, but otherwise it was in perfect condition. In addition, the previous owner had installed custom Remus exhaust. I have already put on 5,000 miles and have had no problems whatsoever.

I found mine on http://www.cycletrader.com, but you can also check out http://www.craigslist.com. Don't forget to search on Interceptor and VFR800. Sometimes people post their ad with one, but not the other.

I think there could still be some older, 06 to 07, VFRs still in crates at some dealers.
Mine was a new in crate 04 I bought just before the 07s came out.

If I was you I would look for a brand new older model still in the crate as mentioned in the previous response. If you are unable to find a brand new bike that is a couple of years old I would look into a good used one with all the aftermarket goodies already included. I've seen some sick deals on some 5th and 6th Gens with low mileage that already include aftermarket seat, racing exhaust, power commanders, hard-bags, etc.

    Regards,
    Rollin

Fatty, search high and low for the best prices you can find Internet, Dealers etc. Then go back to your dealer and shoot him a price $1000 or $1500 dollars lower than the best price you find. This will start a very interesting conversation and maybe he will get a little pissed off. Be pepared to go home for a few days and wait for the call. Remember the most important thing "Cash Rules". "He who has the cash makes the Rules". Your not there to make friends. If it just doesn't feel right leave. Don't buy until your are happy with the deal. Don't fall in love. Remember the same motorcycle is available in many other places. I live in Chicago and bought my '07 RWB last Sept. and there are still places I see new RWB's. If you don't like the deal you will find the bike and a better deal somewhere else. Good Luck! This process should be fun!!!

I'm on board with you guys.

Ideally I want a new previous to 08.

Savings with no tangible value with the '09. Same bike is same bike.

I'll keep you all posted as the week unfolds.

Thanks a ton for the help!
