And while they're at it, these fascist thugs would also like to see the U.S. wiped off of the Earth as well, but since that's too tall a miracle to expect even from Allah, they might be willing to settle for the prompt and total withdrawal of all U.S. and coalition forces from the Middle East.

Indeed, not long after 9/11, Osama bin Laden told the world, in one of his many videotaped cave-side chats (always first broadcasted over the Al Jazeera satellite TV channel), that Al-Qaeda would stop all terrorist attacks and other such hostilities against the U.S. and other such 'infidels' once they totally and unconditionally pulled out from the Middle East, particularly including any further military and financial backing of Israel.

It is naive (at best) to criticize U.S. and coalition forces for seeking to protect and keep one of the world's most vital sources of petroleum from falling into the hands of Islamic fundamentalist extremist thugs.

While the invasion of Iraq was one of the worst foreign policy blunders in U.S. history, the fact remains that the global Free World has vital interests in maintaining political, economic, and free-trade in the Middle East for the foreseeable future, and Israel is among our most important and right-minded friends and allies in this volatile region of the world.

I find it rather ironic to note that quite a number of those within the VFRWorld.com community are card-carrying members of the National Rifle Association, many who quite vocally express great pride and a strong sense of entitlement in exercising their constitutional right to legally carry a gun, either openly or concealed, even while riding a motorcycle. Clearly, those of you who 'carry' feel that it is your right to defend yourselves with deadly force if you deem it necessary.

So I ask you, what right do those of you who espouse your rights to pack a loaded hand-cannon even while in the bucolic suburbs and cow pastures of the U.S... what gives you the right to judge Israel for defending herself with overwhelming deadly force when her neighbors in Gaza (and now even Lebanon) are launching and lobbing Katyusha rockets into her sovereign territories, during a cease-fire no less? And what about the suicide bombers who attack and kill innocent people at nightclubs and outdoor markets in places like Haifa and Tel Aviv?

And as for you, Squirrelman, you've been bitching about the fact that the Israeli's are using many weapon systems and attack aircraft of U.S. origin (by the way, the U.K and France are additional vendors) , but so far in the course of this discussion, you have not similarly complained about the sources of the weapons and explosives which the terrorists are using in Israel, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Those weapons are coming from the likes of Russia, China, Iran, Syria, etc.

Firstly, let me apologise for the long post. We are having similar discussions on this side of the pond. To fully understand what is happening now, we need to look at history a little.

The people of Israel will tell you that the kingdom of Judah was always their land as ruled by King David as described in the bible. It was eventually conquered by the Babylonians (Persians. Eventually to become Iran and Iraq) and ceased to exist in it’s own right.

Now, if we all stuck to this idea then the good old America Continent, including the USA and Canada would be handed back to it’s indigenous population. Most of Southern Europe would be run by Rome and the Saxons would run Northern Europe. It’s a fact that centuries of war brought us the National boundaries that we all know today.

Soon after WW1 the British proposed to The League of Nations that Palestine should be divided in two and that half of it was to be the State of Israel. This was approved by The League of Nations.

In 1947, The UN did just that and in 1948 Israel declared independence. Ben Gurion stated that he considered a partial Jewish State as only a beginning. He planned to organise a first-class army and then use coercion or force to settle in the rest of the country.This was not part of the original agreement and did not go down well with the neighbouring Arab states and an almighty war broke out. Israel subsequently won the conflict and expanded its boundaries by taking land from its neighbours. Since then the whole area has been in conflict.

In 1967 Egypt, Syria and Jordan flexed their muscles and expelled the UN peacekeepers and stopped the movement of Israeli people. This led to the six day war that Israel won by a mile and resulted in them expanding their boundaries once more. This time they took the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula. The Arab failure in this war spawned a truly evil organisation called the PLO. Those of us old enough to remember will know just how evil they really were.

There have been a great number of conflicts since but I will stop there, as I don’t want this to become a history lesson, albeit a very brief one.

It can be seen then that the causes of the conflict are deep rooted. The Arab nations believe that their land was given away to the state of Israel who has then gone on to take more and more.

The Israelis on the other hand believe that they have a right to exist on this land as it was their biblical homeland and that they are acting in self defence.

Whichever way you look at it, I can’t see an end to this conflict unless all parties agree to it and then most importantly stick to it.

 

Well yes there is truth in all that especially the last statement, but in simple terms Israel don't just believe they are recognised as the current owners of their historical land of Judah. The combined Arab league of Nations ( Egypt, Syria, Gordan, Iraq and others ) lost those areas of land to Israel when they launched the 1967 war against Israel with a much larger force with the express aim of totally destroying the Nation of Israel and its people and Gazas previous owners Egypt had the good sense to refuse Israels offer to hand the even then troubled area of Gaza back to them in the '79 Peace accord. ( Mind don't expect Israel to ever offer back the militarily strategic to both Israel and Syria Goloan Heights )
