    Hey all,
Just bought a 25th Anniversary edition VFR 800. It is replacing my aged 1991 with 81K miles on it. After 17 years on the same bike, it was amazing how much I was missing. Still breaking in the new one, but can't wait to open it up a little bit.

I was wondering if Honda ever addressed the regulator/rectifier problem they have had. Replaced it 3 times on my '91, about every 28-30K miles. Hope I don't have to deal with that again.

Sorry about the boasting, but thought who better to understand my excitement than a bunch of VFR Bubbas.

    Ride well,
    Wildman

Welcome and congratulations on the bike. 2006 & newer VFRs all come with the improved RR, so you should be fine there.

Excellent decision. The retro color scheme is what ultimately sold me on buying one. So are you keeping the '91. You've had it for so long, I imagine it would be tough to part with it.

Thats great! 81K, you deserve a new bike. I really like the rwb scheme on the new bikes, but just cant afford a brand new bike. I have too many other toys laying around.

    Got any photos?

    Thanks

    Thanks

I do plan to keep my '91. With 81K and wear and tear associated with it, it is worth more to me than any amount I could get selling it. Having a second ride, I am considering giving it a paint job and maybe doing some bondo (if it is still called bondo, aging myself maybe) on the stress cracks on the plastic.

Went for a joy ride today finally. Of course I got pulled over, fortunately not for speeding, but for passing an old lady in a no passing zone. The cop actually admitted she was doing 10 mph "under" the speed limit, so he just told us to 'pass in the passing zone only'. I think that is the first time I have ever gotten out of a ticket I deserved.

It is definitely the ride I had anticipated it to be.

Thanks all for the responses and I hope to be able to live a bit vicariously through this site, as I don't often have the time to get out and ride anymore.

    Have a great Holiday everyone.

Back from the Holidays and Happy New Year to all. Finally got a pic worth posting. Has the old and new. Will make it my avatar when I get a chance (hopefully in a few min).

I will probably post the following in a sep thread, but my new bike seems to ride hot. It is pretty cool in the morning here (50s) and after about 15 min of riding and then stop and go traffic, the fan kicks on and pretty much cycles till I get to work. Maybe I am more sensitive to it since I can now see the exact temp, but just seems to run hot.

    Anyway, have a great day.

VFRs run hot, hotter than bikes I've owned in the past. I had the same concern when I first had mine. Just make sure your engine temp is w/in the threshold, can't remember what that is, 228 seems to ring a bell. I'd pile a few hundred miles on it and if it's still a concern have the dealer look at it, use that Honda warranty to make sure it's not a t-stat or something but I'd venture to bet you're fine.

It seems that at 50 degrees, it shouldn't kick on. Mine does so in stop and go traffic once you hit 80+ or so. I guess it depends on how long you're sitting. Keep an eye on it.

Welcome aboard! I've only had my 07 about a year and was itchin to get another bike so I did the opposite of you and bought a Pearl White 93. Now just like you I've got the best of both worlds.

I came home with the same bike today. I've spent years on a ZX-11 and finally decided to act my age. (I'm old enough to remember the original RWB scheme.) I'm still amazed at how smooth the VFR is.

Thanks to everyone on this forum. I read a lot of favorable comments about the 6th Generation VFRs before making my purchase.

Congratulations on your new acquisition. You will love your bike. It is amazing how refined the 6th Gen is compared to my 2nd. I love my older bikes, but the 6th Gen just makes me feel like I'm a much better rider than I really am!
