true. but I bought this LAST YEAR before the market fell out. November 4th to be exact. So given that, you would think AT MINIMUM $8000. Right?

Just remember, this is a friendly forum, no need to hate me...

I'll just break it down like this...

10/4/2007 Gentleman walks into local Honda/Yamaha Dealer, attempts to purchase (as a first bike) an R1. Salesman talks the slightly older (late 40's) gentleman into reconsidering a smaller displacement bike. The guy is rather stubborn, says he wants a "crotch rocket" like his neighbor buddy. Salesman convinces him to take a look at the Honda VFR. Happens to be a red one on the sales floor, the guy looks it over and says, no thanks, I need something "Flashy". Salesman makes a call, finds a 25th Anniversary at a nearby dealership.

10/7/2007 2007 25th Anniversary Honda VFR shows up at local dealership. Guy is convinced THIS is the bike for him. Arranges financing and takes it home. (Luckily he has experience with dirt bikes so he doesn't kill it on the way home)

11/3/2007 Guy brings VFR into local Harley Davidson Dealership, mentions that he'd like to trade it in on something a little more "cool". He seems to think the VFR is a bit TOO sporty and that maybe he'd be better off with a Harley Lowrider, thinks it will be more of what he wants (to date it seems to have been more to his ability).

    11/4/2007
8:30AM My girlfriend (MotorClothes Manager at said H-D Dealership) arrives at work, happens to notice a odd looking multi-colored shape at the end of the shop. Inquires to the sales manager, he states that took it in on trade and that the owner of the dealership wants it gone YESTERDAY. (Selling used sportbikes in a Harley Dealership doesn't seem to go over too well.)
9:30AM Girlfriend dismisses the bike, thinks nothing of it, then recalls that I used to own a Yamaha SECA650 and a Suzuki GSXR600 and that maybe I'd know what this odd looking thing was...
9:35AM I receive a picture text on my phone in the middle of my work day. I jump out of my seat, THAT'S THAT NEW VFR... I call her, she calls her boss, he calls the Dealership owner (whom I am good friends with)...
9:40AM Get a call from the owner, tells me he'll dump it off on me for what he took it in as trade. No profit, no markup, just get the bike out of his building.
9:50AM Arrive at dealership with checkbook in hand, pop out the handy Parker Ballpoint pen...

AND WALK OUT OF THERE WITH A 2007 25TH ANNIVERSARY HONDA VFR WITH 516 MILES ON IT FOR...

    $5000.00

Did you have your permit to carry too? Man you guys down there do get the deals. Here we have metric money and imperial prices. No need for me to post. Unless I do so in the humour thread.

As when you told me today Shayne.....damn, that was a steal! 5k for basically a brand new bike....count your lucky stars for sure!

That is only $400 bucks more than what i paid for my '98! It had saddlebags, aftermarket exhaust, and tank bag, but that was it. I didn't get much of a deal, compared to others, but I like the ole girl, and she hasn't bucked me off yet!

I did get my Sidi' boots for 170 brand new online, and my RF-1000 for $150 off sticker.

Off subject...just found out the 7-11 next door to my girlfriend's place just sold a lottery ticket worth 46 mill today....I was hoping and praying it was her.....sigh...

    I'm checking my ticket...

Sweet score, love to hear these stories. Oh so real too. I missed out on a killer deal be mere minutes on a 916 Duc at a HD dealer, all thou this was back in 1999 Yea guess what?

$4600 Yes you read that right. They too wanted it gone, had the owner which I also knew real well known I was into these he said he would have called me in second, it didn't last but an hour.

'94 VFR750, 29k miles for $300-, with GenMar bar risers, 2-Bros C/F pipe, fully jetted, and OEM rear seat cowl.
Gave it a new RK chain, AFAM sprockets, new spark plugs, flushed coolant, clutch & brake fluids, rebuilt forks.

TOTAL Investment, INCLUDING new tires AND 1 year of Full Insurance, approximately $800-!

(OK, the mid & lower fairings need some TLC, so they're collecting dust until I feel like fixing them up.)

It now has about 39k trouble-free miles of year-round commuting and backroad flogging, including giving fits to literbike & 600 SS riders in the twisties, and laying waste to such things as Speed Triples and a few big-$$ Ducatis and similar exotica.

I do oil & filter changes every 4-5k miles with Delo 400 (non-syn) for about $10/gallon & PureOne filter ($6-).
Otherwise all it uses is gas.

The OE brake pads will be swapped for EBC HH's in spring, and I may invest in S/S brake hoses if I can find some CHEEP.

This bike has been a study in low-dollar fun & frugality - My focus from the start has been "What's the cheapest I can (safely) get away with?".
I ride it hard, REAL HARD sometimes, and have found that it really is all about the rider and not the bike or the wallet.

    I've also gone through a set of Shinko 006's for $190- installed ( http://vfrworld.com/forums/general-vfr-discussions/15098-shinko-tires-test-review.html )
    * Update - The 006's lasted almost exactly 5k miles, and I was very happy until the end.
I've recently installed Shinko 009's (more Sport/Touring, harder compound) for $200 installed, and they are outstanding in rain, and expect 8-10k miles out of 'em (& I still intend to show the younger guys what a 500lb sport/touring bike with 80rwhp on low-end sport/touring tires can do...!).

Not a super deal but good for this area (DC). Picked up a new 08 ABS with Hardbags for 11400 out the door. Didn't seem that great until a buddy of mine went to buy an 07 Non-ABS, no bags and the lowest another dealer would go was 10,600 + taxes.

I got my 07 Anniversary Edition last year with just under 3000 miles on it for $7000 out the door. My friend who works at the dealer hooked me up and I thought it was a great deal especially considering it was almost a year ago. Getting an 07 for $5000 can't be beat!!

    Regards,
    Rollin

Picked up my VFR not more than a month ago for $3000, though the mileage is over 40k....still a great deal for my budget!
