    Hello everyone!

Looking for my first VFR. Previously, 1999 Magna, 2006 600F4I, sold it missing it, now on a 2004 Aero 750, not for me! I have educated myself on the VFR and it seems to be the best bike for my riding style and needs, ie.. daily commute--15 miles-- weekend tours and eventually extended tours. QUESTION??? New or gently loved? Just turned 50, with two years riding experience would greatly appreciate any wisdom on the subject. Thanks Pluto.

OML an open ended question. BTW Hi good to see another interested person.. Boy oh boy you're going to see there's no wrong VFR, so you'll need to go ride a few to totally understand the range of difference. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say check out a 5th gen 1998 to 2001 ebay, local cycle trader etc. to start off with, I'd stay away from the dealers, they don't know much when it come to VFRs GL

Hello and welcome Pluto! I would say gently loved myself, however, you can probably get a killer deal from a dealer if the have had it sitting around for awhile (like at mine) and are willing to bargain.

I'd say go for a used bike. Decide how much you want to spend then go for whichever falls into that price range. After you get your bike, then you become an adamant proponent of why your generation is the best and your color is the fastest. That's the order things are done around here...

p.s. Red is fastest and 5G is the bizzomb!

Welcome Pluto! The 6th Gen bike (2002-present) is the best all around bike compared to any other Generation. It truly is the do anything bike. You'll find a lot of great information and people on this site so don't be afraid of asking questions (though the first question you asked could start a bad flame war! :flame:)

Which-ever bike you choose you really can't go wrong if it's a VFR!

(and SILVER 6th Gen's are the fastest! just not with me riding it!

    In search of VFR

The best thing about the VFR is that there are very few gently used units on the market! Apparently, the the present owners refuse to let go of such a good thing. Great!!! My local dealer has a left over 2007 for quoted phone price of 10k, OUCH! Please direct me with all of your combined wisdom. MSRP 2009 10,999.00? What's up with the $$$ of the new two year old unit?

You can get it for less... There are people on this forum who have purchased 2007 models for 8-$9000 right off the floor. You didn't tell us if this was the Anniversary edition (Red White and blue) and whether it had ABS. Still 10K is way too much; if he doesn't come down then look elsewhere.

    2005 Vfr 800

    Thanks SilverSurfer!

lungsfordhonda.com has a 2005 VFR800, 8K, non abs for 7900.00 looks good and I bet they would negotiate. Located in Houston, take a look and please get back! I think it might be identical to your ride.

That web page is not coming up for me. I bought my 05' for about $7000 at the end of 06' at a local dealer. Mine a had a few more miles but was the demo bike and all dealer maintained. You should be able to get a very good deal. Good luck!

You also may want to check out craigslist, owners are usually a lot cheaper than a dealer and know the history of the bike if you're looking for used. I would say you're better off with a 2nd or 4th gen (unless you must have fuel injectors), I bet you could get one of each for half of what he wants for the 2007

7900.00 seems a bit high to me. I got my 2004 VFR800 non abs and clean on craigslist. 2100 miles for 6K. Good luck with your search. :cheersaf:

welcome to vfrworld Pluto! try your local craigslist or cycletrader. you might find some good deals there-but you have to be patient to find the right one. if you don't have the luxury of time, a local dealer might offer some deal on a vfr that's been on display for quite some time. good luck man!

The 2008 GSX has gotten some pretty favorable reviews but I'd still take the Honda over it any day. In addition to Honda's proven reliability and better resale value, you will have many more options if you decide to add hard bags to your bike later for longer trips. I currently own a 2007 VFR and am currently looking for a 93 model to add to my collection of toys. Most people would be worried to purchase a 16 year old bike but I know that these engines can easily go 70-100k miles if maintained correctly. How many 15+ year old Suzuki or Yamaha sport bikes do you see for sale or on the road nowadays?

    Regards,
    Rollin

The suzuki will look like 'old Tat' in 2 years, the Honda will still look like new. IMO suzuki build quality is just not on par with Honda's.

it also has 100cc less, NO V4 engine, sounds like a fart in a bottle and lacks charactor....you may fall asleep while riding it?

mind you, i am also completely biased!

you need a nice red gen 4, you do...

I think that the vfr will be the more comfortable bike. I ride with three other guys (2 vfr's and the other guy has an '06 cbr 600rr) the 600rr guy always is complaining of back pain about the halfway point through our rides. And the three vfr riders are always doing just fine. we probably do about 150-200 miles on our rides.

The gsx 650f is a nice bike and would be a fun bike to have IMO..that bieng said I'd still take a vfr over one...but wouldnt be ashamed to have the gixxer...go sit on them look at them both test ride (if you can) see which fits your need more...From what youve said I bet the vfr would fit you better..ie: weekend longer tours....
