I used to work with a lady who had a thyroid problem. She never followed her prescription. She would just take pills based on how she felt.
The thyroid helps regulate energy levels. So when she was feeling low she would take more and if she felt fine, she would take none.
So some days she would be bouncing off the walls and we would have to ask her if she was messing with her meds again.

This is the same lady who held open her pants to prove the carpet matched the drapes to one of our docs. She did not see anything sexual about it and could not figure out why everyone was blushing. Also the same lady who got pulled over for weaving all over the road. When asked by the cop if there was a problem she responded by telling the officer that she was just stroking her kitty. She did not understand the officer's reaction. After all, she was just driving around with her pet cat.
