I've got a '05 Silver VFR w/ silver wheels, I've contacted a powder coater to estimate the cost to powder coat them black. They said if the wheels already have powder coating it would cost extra to strip them. Does anyone know if Honda powder coats their wheels. Thanks, Kenji

Just throwing it out there. There are a few who don't like there black wheels and may want silver...

My guess would be that they are powder coated but it's just a guess.

I would trade you my black front wheel for silver anytime. I would even pony up a few bucks. Lots cheaper than stripping and powdercoating.

I traded my black rear rear for a silver wheel two weeks ago. There are black rear wheels on eBay pretty often from bikes that have been in front collision. It took quite awhile for me to find a silver rear wheel.

Did you get the end up getting your wheels powdercoated? I just purchased an 03' with black wheels and was looking into what it would take to change them to a different color and wanted to know about the process.

I'm having mine done by a local place and they quoted $186 for both and that included stripping the old paint. Don't know how that compares, but there it is.

I have looked into this as it is one of the things I would like to do this winter.

The front rim requires that the bearings be removed to get it done properly. New dust seals and bearings cost an additional $50.00 from Service Honda including the shipping. Pressing the bearings out and pressing the new ones back in will set you back another $30-$40. So, if you want to powdercoat a front rim, and do it right, you are into the cost of the hard parts, the labor to remove and install the hard parts, the stripping of the rim and the powdercoating. You can expect to pay between $200.00 and $250.00 for the front rim alone. That doesn't include removal and re-installation of the tire.......The rear rim isn't as pricey, due to the lack of hard parts required, but you still have to pay someone to remove the tire and re-install it.

My personal estimate for getting this done was between $450-$600, said done and over. I did take into consideration, buying some rims in the color I wanted, but figured they wouldn't have been perfect either.

Now if you want to do your swingarm too......you can figure on an additional $300-$350, and that's if you remove the swingarm yourself. The bearings, races and dust seals are about $80, shipped, from Service Honda. $30-40 to remove and re-install the hard parts, an aditional cost to strip the swingarm, and of course, the powdercoating.

So all altogether you are looking at $750-$900 to have a high end powdercoating performed on both rims and the swingarm. For another $900 you could just buy Carozerria forged aluminum rims.........

Bearings and seals for the front wheel will cost less than $20. Don't pay exorbitant Honda prices for something that is a standard off the shelf bearing. You should be able to get them from a bearing house for about $5 each. Honda wants around $15 each, ridiculous. The seals are about $3.50 each. Removing and replacing bearings is easy and anyone with decent mechanical ability should be able to do it themselves easily. If you freeze the bearings they will all but drop into the wheel.

I figure the wheel/tire removal, bearing/seal removal. paint removal, powdercoating, bearing and seal replacement, tire replacement, balancing, and replacing on the bike will cost me about $210 total cost to do both wheels. Oh yeah, that will include replacing the old valve stems with 80 degree valve stems for easier access.

That is a cool looking machine, then they went and put that hideous, cheap looking, yellow lettering on it. It makes me cringe every time I see that........

Thanks, I'm hoping the color looks good when they are back on the bike. Should be done next week. Got my fingers crossed.

For the cost i would go for a new rim.
But i also like my silver rim on my winning red 05. So much nicer than black.
