its been awhile since i have posted most of you know i told you i got my 4-1 exhaust...... so i got some pics of it last night and today was bored so i too my old blown motor apart to find out why it blew... i found out that i indeed did drop a valve kind of you will see in the pics. haha amazing that all that was left was the stem. :D oh well my new/old 86' motor on my 85' w/ my 85' carbs is a BADASS setup. if most of you didnt know an 86' has bigger rockers and cams but yet the carbs were smaller. vice versa with the 85'. so taking the bigger cams and rockers w/ the 86' and the bigger carbs from my 85' :D i think i gained a little. and the exhaust is absolutely great. love the sound and the power. cruisin round 6k rpms sounds sweeeeeet. anyways just wanted to post up and keep up w/ everything. enjoy the pics. R.I.P. 1985 motor you were good.

I think that's the first time I've ever seen a valve break right off like that. Any idea what caused it? I guess the head was bouncing around in the cyl. It must have sounded like a rock crusher.

I'm with Eddie, crazy what a motor can do to itself. Did it punch holes in the piston crown too? Wonder what was keeping the keepers and springs from flying off inside the valve cover.

I was also wondering what the top of the piston looked like. Good find on the pipe. Great bike overall, thanks for keeping it alive. Back in 86 i used to tool around town on a 500 interceptor. Fun bike, wish it were mine.

well it all started with a small tick. (valve slap). i kept riding it. the noise got louder and then started became horrible. one night on my way home from work the oil light came on and my bike made a loud bang. it was done. so i called my buddy and we threw it in the truck to take her home.

    but yeah it sounded horrid.

haha it tore up the crown pretty bad. thats the funny thing it wasn't hard to find the problem. the keepers and spings were just layin in the valve cover haha they loose. i didnt take the other side apart yet and or torn down the block but i'm going to because i think there might be more to my blown motor but we'll find out.

I've destroyed a motor or two doing stupid things, and had a few just go. Sounds like top end oiling on yours. I note you're from Indy, I went to Moto GP up there this year, did you make it too? Crazy day

    I'm in Louisville

I only made it up for that Sunday

Then when I got home the place was chaos, Louisville got hit with 85-90mph winds, my power was out for six days.

I am really looking forward to next years race.

That was my first time at the Speedway, what a great place.

Dang those are SERIOUS winds. that was all from that hurricane too wasn't it. i remember it was pretty windy around here. but i cant remember when lol.

yeah next year will be AWESOME. its pretty cool actually livin in indianapolis. a lot of different stuff comes through here. the nascar and indy cars are absoluetly crazy. speedway is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i go to nascar every year and never been to the indy cars.

there is a pretty cool charity ride we do around here where we tour the city and all of us end at the racetrack and do a lap around it. last year or well (this year) it was amazing with the turnout and we made over $355,000 dollars.
