Last night I got delivery of an incredible '96 VFR750 -I believe you call them Gen 4?

Now, first of all I need to say I am absolutely new to the whole VFR thing, so I didn't know what to expect. Many things surprised me in a good way, and a couple of things I found downright weird.

The good things you all know, so I'll just skip to the weird part.

Before I got the bike I was informed that it had a left side crash which damaged the left side fairing and left a smallish dent to the tank.
The dealer informed me that it was fully resprayed and all was well.

However, under the night lights on the road the color seemed so weird.
Under amber floodlights it was turning orange/off red, and under white lights at petrol stations it was even going turning pinkish at some angles...

Now, I understand that the red paint has some pearl inside, which I guess is responsible for all of this, but the right hand side (apparently factory paint) was not so prone to "color-shifting".

When I got up this morning and saw it under -overcast- daylight the two sides look identical for all intents and purposes. I don't know how it will look in direct sunlight, but to me it seems that the painter threw in more pearl than he should when repainting the left side.

Or could it be that the left side has fresh paint and the pearl is "acting up" while the right is more "inactive" (it certainly seems so)? It is after all a 12 year old paint...

    Your thoughts guys?

All dealerships care about is pushing vehicles and making money. once you sign the peice of paper and drive off the lot they move on to the next stooge.

They just didnt paint well is all.

    you can always repaint.

hangem up in ur garage or a dust draft free area, sand, primer, sand paint sand paint sand paint. keep doing this untill you are satisfied.

if you use spray cans rather than a compresser and air gun you will have to do many many coats sanding inbetween. sanding is what makes it look good.

Or just ride it and not worry about it. The hard truth is no one will notice but you. It's not their bike and they aren't gonna pay that much attention.

You'll be happier riding it than working on it.

Well said guys! I guess I'm just being a little picky! I can always repaint it down the line, but at the moment I am having too much of a good time to give a rat's ass!

DAMN what an incredible bike -and this coming from a Ducati 999 owner ought to mean a thing or two... :)

think of it this way. if it looks pink on one side and red on the other, then only the people on your left will think you are a little fruity. the people on the right side will think ur straight.

    :) just kiddin man.

My bike has all stock panels on it (no paintwork) and in some lights the pearl is a little pink.

I wouldn't worry all that much about it.

This pearly red is an incredible colour though, isn't it? :)
In the daylight you really can't tell there's a difference unless you know. Oh well! :)

I agree - I had no idea that it was a pearl paint ob until I saw my bike (to buy it) for the first time.

I have to say that the paint color was what actually convinced me to buy it (the low mileage and the near-perfect condition didn't hurt, either).

I had paintwork done on my 4th Gen and the body shop had me look at the panels in sunlight. LOTS of different colors in the pearl. Take a close look at it!
