I've got my original chain and sprockets with 26K. I beat on mine pretty hard and the sprockets look great! The chain however is starting to get rough. You can feel it in the amount of vibration through the pegs. I'll probably just find another stock chain on Ebay and finish off the original sprockets before buying a whole new set.

As long as your sprocket teeth aren't sharp and pointy it's a waste of money replacing them. On my bike I'm on my 2nd chain with the same sprocket and it runs just fine.

14k on my bike and I just now adjusted the chain for the first time! It's been within tolerance since I bought it! My mechanic states that because it's a single swingarm and has a rachet adjust, it simply doesn't slip out of adjustment the way dual swingarms to. They're held in place by bolts that eventaully slip because of constant vibrations that are just a part of normal everyday riding.

As far as sprockets go, I am thinking about getting a smaller rear sprocket to relax the highway rpms a bit. I don't do track days on my VFR. Too old for that chit anyway. I just enjoy the ride!

    I love my bike!

Awe come on now! Two of my best riding buddies only started doing track days in their late 50's

Just busting your nuts, continue to enjoy the ride!

What! :jaw:14K ? and first adjustment? Wow or crazy, I'm not picking on you, just wow even in the best of it chains need an adjustment well before 500-600 miles, I have gone a 1000+ on one chain adjustment where it was a long road trip weekend ride, but never heard of 14K. Now I have.
FWIW it's not that standard swing arm axles get lose more than a SSSA does, it's the chain stretch and wear in the roller and pins is what makes them get lose.

Just to confuse everyone...I had to replace my stock chain at 7000 miles. It ran out of adjustment on the eccentric. The RK I replaced it with has been adjusted once or twice in the following 7k but other wise doing fine.

    Rvfr -

I bought the bike in 2007 with 734 miles on it. I believe the initial service was done on the bike before I bought it, but yes, I'm serious, I did not have to adjust this chain until now! It wasn't really very loose even then. If you look at the pics in my gallery you'll see that I kept it very clean and well lubed with chain wax.

On every other bike I ever owned I was constantly adjusting the chain at 600-800 mile intervals. I really found it strange with my VFR, but everytime I went for an oil change (3000 miles) I would ask my mechanic about it and he would check and tell me it was fine.

I have not had the valves adjusted on this bike yet either. Nothing sounds out of whack to me so I'll probably forgo that until about 20k-25k.

My last service I had the air filter replaced with a K&N, had the spark plugs changed and wires lubricated, brake pads replaced with EBC and fluids bled and replaced (there was plenty of stock pad still left actually, but there is a BIG difference in stopping power now), oil and filter changed, and coolant flushed and replaced.

I am just really impressed with the quality I see put into this Honda as opposed to my other bikes in the past. I have not had one issue with this bike so far.

the first time I did both, but the second time I didn't because I wanted to see if it really makes a difference. I didn't get all that much time out of the full set so lets see what I get from just doing the chain...
