Best can for me? 4th Gen

Hey folks, one of my first times posting up here! I was wondering, Christmas is coming up and my mom said she would buy me a new can and zero grav windshield for my 1997 VFR750. Currently it has the stock windshield and I bought it with a Yoshi "R&D" can. I do not know very much about these bikes yet, but I think I would like my bike to be a little throatier/louder. My father said as the exhaust gets worked out, it'll sound better. I don't really want to be the annoying straight pipe guy (I grew out of that with my trans am hah) but I am 21 and do love the sound of this bike. I prefer a high mount but I am open to every idea. What would suit my liking best? Anyone whos heard a 4th gen with a can, lemme know how it sounds! Thanks again

Howdy Vince, You have done good there, as with most personal touches it really comes down to what the owner likes, but I can say for certain you can't go wrong with a Staintune.

wow that bike looks just as clean as mine does, how many miles? Did you have your wheels, duct, and bottom fairing painted in a darker black or is that just hella clean? I went to town on mine with armor all and its dark but not like that. Anyways, I've seen and heard a lot about staintune, is it pretty rippin with the spud out? I know the quality is what I am looking for and the high mount looks delicious. I really just want to hear my bike through my helmet, don't get me wrong the whine is the best but the exhaust is too quiet!

 

Ooo Again sound is so personal, but I can a test to my baby growls like a blown BBC, LOL of course the spud is out. Here's a video of me going through a parking garage tunnel, but man the sound quality won't be able to hold a candle to what it really sounds like as there is wind noise, all though this video isn't bad.

Thanks for the comps, I just like to keep her clean and shiny, most of the time I use the Honda Spray polish cleaner which now is made under another label but the can looks the same.

 

I like my Two Brothers Racing can, it's a "vintage" model with the brass logo riveted onto the side. I got the bike with it, and it sounds great.

But I haven't heard anything else, so my opinion is kind of limited.

Always good to be inspired. Glad I could be of a push. Lets see, what's the conversion for 43,00 miles? or in this case I have 42,989 on her as I type.

Mm things to be on the know or look out. 1st. would be the dread Voltage Reg. they have a problem every now and then, due most likely from my experience the plug that plugs into the unit gets corroded therefore making a bad connect which in turn causes extra heat then a melt down of sorts. Not a big thing, but it can bite you at the most inconvenient times. Everything else is pretty much what you'd find or should look for when ever looking at a motorcycle. ei, chain, rust in tank, suspension as in seals, brakes are they firm what about pads? throttle smoothness at the hand grip, be nice to know when it was last run, any that have sat awhile like a year or two may have carb issues, then again maybe not. I've found even after if they have missed a service or two the valves are pretty much within clearance 90% of the time. so unless this one has 48K plus I wouldn't worry about the valves, unless you hear an obvious loud tick. A bit of history is always good to know but for the most part this 4th gen are pretty bullet proof. One of the items IMO that need attention ASAP is the front forks are way under sprung and any shock that has more than 10K on it is probably do for replacement, but these two things really depending on how important it is to the owner, again they are pretty good right out of the box for your average get around. Thanks RV. this particular one has just on 50K miles. exterior wise, it is in original condition,red of course, still with stock exhaust by the look of it.

have quizzed the current owner, it has apparently had 4 older owners so it has always been well cared for, and has probably had a sheltered upbringing.

he has all the service data and history for it so on this basis i feel comfortable that what im seeing is genuine.
