After reading about some problems that have surfaced after having the wiring harness recall done I'm a little afraid to have it done to my bike.
I've heard of lights burning out and other problems not to mention the scratches my tank and body work could recieve at the hands of a non caring mechanic.
The closest Honda dealer to me said they had not done any VFR recalls. This did not instill any confidence in me so I went to a dealer a little farther away, 40 miles, and they ordered the parts and said they had done the recall on several bikes. Well, I'm taking it in on Monday and hoping for the best.
Maybe I've waited a little too long because the temps are going to be in the 30 to 40 range with snow flurries in the forcast.

Some folks have removed their plastics and taken the bike in naked. Just an idea.

If it were me, I'd take off all the plastics before taking it in. I have 36,000 miles on my bike, still need to do the recall. Might take it in since I have it apart for paint. My local dealer said they had done a few, but they will have my bike for 2 weeks. So might wait until it starts raining more...

What year is your bike? I believe only from 02 to 05.

Its an 2004 so its affected by the recall. The service manager said there is also an inspection on the brake system. Its something about the linked brakes. Removing the plastic is something I may do. I already have removed the Sargent seat.

TWO WEEKS?!?!?!? I'd find another dealer! Mine took 2 hours! Wait, maybe that's why they bent the connectors and shorted out the R/R!

I had no problem since the peeps at the Honda shop knows three things about me:

    A) I have a sharp eye for detail (and an 8 Megapixel camera)
    B) I inspect my VFR before and after each visit to the shop
    C) My temper has a zero tolerance for BS

Just wanted to note that I just had the recall done to my '05, they ended up replacing the whole harness though, pretty painless, they kept it about 2 weeks, they were origially just going to replace the front harness as stated by Honda, but "somebody" had preformed the jump ground-wire trick to keep riding the bike, somehow the shop talked Honda into letting them replace the entire harness. I've actually noticed that the headlights are much brighter, anybody else spot this? It seems to run a bit smoother too, but could just be I miss her.

I had mine done last winter.....zero problems. As Cyborg said, just don't put up with any :bs: from the shop. There is no excuse acceptable for damaging a customer's bike during service..........and if it occurs, it should be fixed without delay and with expressed apologies.
