    That was awesome!!! Thanks.

I'm still voting for KC-10 FE!! And there's nothing any of you can do about it. Yes he may only have a little political experience, but with his Maverick attitude I think he can pull it off.

No, you really did not strike a nerve. I suppose I may have been taken aback by the poorly reasoned logic that you demonstrated though. Furthermore, I was somewhat concerned that there are people like you who are willing to seemingly give away the freedoms that were bought for you and me by the blood of brave soldiers before us.

I don’t necessarily know what you meant by asking if I was “shadow boxing,” and you are the only person on this site that has been confused by my logic. So, rather than “shadow boxing,” I suppose I will take a little time now to systematically dismantle your point of view.

In your initial post, you, on one hand, deride each of us on this thread who hold sacred the concept of FREEDOM as the foundation of the greatness of the American experiment. You deride us by saying that we have a “bizarre fear of Socialism.” We don’t fear Socialism. We fear being socialized. We do not want the wealth that we have busted our butts for to be taken from us to be given to someone who has not lifted a finger to help themselves. We don’t want our businesses and industries to be overtaken by the government. With the exception of the military, I cannot think of one thing that the government does better than private enterprise. Look at social security, Medicaid/Medicare, and the Department of Education if you want just a few examples. But ultimately, we do not want to lose FREEDOM. Freedom of speech lies in the balance. The freedom to own guns and to defend your life and liberty lies in the balance. Freedom of religion lies in the balance. I think it would be a waste of the precious American blood that has been shed to defeat Nazism, Fascism, Imperial Japan, Communism, and Islamic Fascism for us to now wave a white flag of surrender to the Fifth Column of America Hating Socialists that has found a home in the Democratic Party.

On the other hand, you laud the civility of civilizations like Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. Now I ask you, what great things have been given to the world by Norway, Denmark, Finland, or Sweden? Did they invent the automobile? Did they give us the airplane? Did they discover how to refine oil into gasoline? Did they give us great advances in Agriculture? How about telephones, computers, sanitation, and medicine, did they contribute anything substantial to the human race? No, greedy Capitalists in the United States of America parlayed their ingenuity and innovation into these great inventions and discoveries that have advanced our lives and the lives of people in lesser nations than our own. Lesser nations like Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden.

Now, let us consider the REAL faces of REAL socialism. Let us run down a list of some of the great nations that embrace and practice socialism: Cuba, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Vietnam, Syria, Laos, Zambia, and Turkmenistan. Jimtt, is that how you want to live? If so, I will meet you in Key West. I’ll bring a sheet of plywood and a dozen inner tubes. We’ll set you loose on a course toward Cuba. (When you get there, tell Fidel that Dr. Bob said to kiss his big, fat, American hind end.)

In your initial post, you said that “unregulated capitalism” lead to the current financial “meltdown.” This is absolutely wrong. The fact is, unregulated government lead to the current meltdown.

The pin in this grenade was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Fannie and Freddie were not private entities. Fannie and Freddie were “Government Sponsored Enterprises.” Jimmy Carter signed into law the Community Re-investment Act in 1977, or round about there. The purpose of the Community Re-investment Act was to encourage/strong arm banks into making home loans to minorities who had been previously considered to be high risk. In the early 1990’s, Bill Clinton put the Community Re-investment Act on steroids and set into motion what ended up being the death knell of the American financial system. The sub-prime loan became a reality and previous standards of credit-worthiness were chucked out the door in favor of Affirmative Action in Lending. This created an artificial pool of “qualified” buyers who were not really qualified. This significantly increased demand for housing and drove the prices for houses through the roof. When interest rates on the loans increased the “(un)qualified” people defaulted in droves. This dumped a ton of houses into the market with very few truly-qualified buyers and housing prices fell through the basement. Now, Fannie, Freddie, and a host of investment banks who did business with Fannie and Freddie were left holding worthless paper that was signed by un-creditworthy buyers.

The fact is the government’s social engineering experiment lead to this meltdown. By the way, I have not even mentioned the corruption that exists as the result of the incestuous relationships between the Democratic Party (Christopher Dodd, Barney Frank, Barack Obama, Maxine Waters, Jim Johnson, Franklin Raines, and Jamie Gorelick, et al) and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I have not mentioned the big campaign contributions to Dodd and Obama. I have not mentioned the unethical accounting practices of Raines and Johnson (who both have advised Obama) to trigger their multi-million dollar bonuses.

After all of this, I am saddled with some part of 700 billion dollars of debt—in spite of the fact that I pay my mortgage. I am saddled with a house has lost value—in spite of the fact that I looked long and hard to find a house that I could afford before I bought it. Now, I am paying someone else’s mortgage too. You blame private industry. I blame the manipulation of private industry by the government for this situation. I believe Reagan said that government is not the solution, it is the problem. I could not agree more.

So, if Freedom means nothing to you, and you are still unable to see the shades of gray between the black and the white, I’ll give you a one way ticket to Havana if you promise to leave before November 4th.

    EXACTLY.

the problem with unlimited freedom vs unlimited fairness is that people are not fair. and when the people running the government are for the rich and do everything they can to increase the rich GETTING IT FROM THE POOR.

statistics say that 5 percent of the nations people control 95 percent of the money. We are doing something wrong.

We pay taxes as poor people and get no benefit. yet the rich people are continually getting tax brakes and grants to do whatever they want and anything else they want.

Im on the verge of losing my house because of medical bills, and dispite being as poor as I am I still cannot get medicair to help.

yet someone that isent even an american citizen can get all the help they need.

This stuff just isn't right. Minimum wage laws are rediclous. NOBODY CAN LIVE OFF OF 5.25 an hour. that barely covers rent. yet we have grown people men here that cannot find a job because there is hardly a job available forced to work for such wages and support a family.

It simply cannot work, yet at the same time the people on the top of the company get six figure incomes.

I do not want the government to simply hand me anything. I work 7 days a week sometimes 12 hours a day. The numbers simply do not allow for it. I do not get hardly anything extra. And I do not have all that many bills.

I dont want a hand out, I just think that the laws we do have, should not PROTECT THE RICH while taking from the poor.

Guys, you are looking at this entirely wrong. I question the validity of the numbers here. I am a doctor employed by a not-for-profit hospital, and I do not take home 85% of my gross.

The Obama tax plan says that he will move the marginal rate on 250,000 from 36% to 39% for federal taxes... Now lets compute.

    250,000 x .36 = 90,000 dollars
    250,000 x .39 = 97,500 dollars

I think it is imoral for the government to take 90,000 dollars from anyone, regardless how much they make. If you think it is alright, lets expand this a little bit.

They will also pay about 7.65% on the first 96,000 dollars for social security and medicare taxes… that is another 7344 dollars.

Oh, lets not forget a state tax rate of 20% or so. That is another 50,000 dollars.

This is not counting property tax, sales tax, and embedded taxes on everyday commodities such as toilet paper and gasoline.

So, a doctor making 250,000 has to pay 90,000 + 7344 + 50,000 + x + y + z which is at minimum 151,344 in taxes. Sure he will have some write off's like 2,500 dollars of student loan interest on a note that is upwards of 170,000 or more dollars. He can also deduct the payments for malpractice insurance that can be anywhere from 12,000 dollars to 60,000+ dollars a year depending on locale and specialty.

Dudes, be nice to doctors... you might need one someday. BTW, the doctors are far less the villians than the insurance companies.

That is definatly a truth. Insurance really is a scam. I know of a lady that worked for walmart that was in a car accident. when all was said and done she owed walmart 30K.

But dr bob. do you think it is fair that I have to pay a higher percentage simply because I make less than you?

I work 7 days a week, pay minimums and dont really have that many bills and still do not make enough money. If it wasn't for my vfr I would be on the way to losing my house by now.

If "all men are created equal" why am I given a higher tax burden that you? Shouldn't the percent be equal to you if you and I are equal.

The fact is, all men are NOT created equal, not in this nation anyway. If you are rich, the government will bend over backwards for you. If you are not...

You simply are not valuable to this nation.

WHAT??? Let's do a little math. 1,000,000 per year, based on a 40 hr work week is $480.77 per hour. 6,000,000 per year is $2884.62 per hour. I don't know of any doctor that makes that kind of money. My sister is a doctor and is still paying on her 100,000 student loan. She was in college for 17 years to get the degrees she wanted. She lived on beans and rice, living in low rent apartments with roomates just to be able to eat while she was in school. I think she deserves a big salary for all the time, money and effort she put in so she could help people. Does the govt have the right to limit the amount she can make? HELL NO!!! Do you have any idea how much money it takes to run a doctor's office? Insurance, rent, nurse's salary...etc. X-ray machines don't come cheap. The list goes on and on.
And, for the property tax comment, Is Obama going to repeal the property tax? Somewhere I missed that. I think you'll find that property taxes are imposed by state and local governments. The federal govt has nothing to do with it. If you want to see hear some real property tax nightmares, ask someone from the Northeast where the dems run free. I don't mean to be rude, but quit watching CNN and think for yourself while on a nice fall ride.

Where in the world did you get the idea that you have a "higher tax burden" than DrBob??? Did you not read how much in taxes his example is paying?!?! If you don't make enough money to pay your bills, is that DrBob's problem?? Should he send you a check?? Should I?? I don't mean to keep busting on you, but wake up!!! We all have to make our own way in this world. Govt is not going to pave the road to success for you. You have to pave your own road. I'm voting for DrBob!!! *DrBob 08*

    Super,
I empathize with your plight. But, I do not think that you could possibly be paying taxes at a higher rate than me. The American Tax system is set up as a progressive tax. Here is an example:

Married, 2 dependants, 400-410/week: 12 dollars withheld for fed taxes.
Married, 2 dependants, 1200-1210/week: 123 dollars withheld for fed taxes.

Man making 1200 per week makes 3 times more than the guy making 400 per week but has 10 times more money held out for fed taxes.

Here is a link to the 2008 tax tables: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf if you want to check my math.

The idea that the "rich people" do not pay as much in taxes as the "poor man" is a lie that has been perpetuated by labor unions and the Democratic party to incite class warfare. They use it because it leads the little guy to think he is getting screwed by the big guy. It rallies people to vote for Democrats.

As far as your situation, work with the hospital. Make a payment plan. They would rather get 50 or 100 bucks a month for 5 years than kick you out of your house. It will take some sacrifice on your part, but most hospitals want to help you-- they just need to make some money too so they can pay their bills and meet their payroll.

i appriciate your simpathy. my situation really isent that bad. comparitivly anyway.

the hospital itself let me pay a "copay" rather than the 140 grand. the rest is just surgery. anasthesoligist. stuff like that. ill soon get with debt consolidiation. itl even help me with what debt i have now.

I finally have steady work. ill get by. esspicially with a vfr.

i just think everyone should pay an equal percentage. you mentioned you keep 84 percent i think. i only keep 81 percent. 2 percent for me actually makes a difference. for some the difference is larger.

Honestly more of an issue with the way taxes are spent as to the taxes itself. politicians want to spend and spend thinking there will always be tax money coming in. in my own town they wait until the snow has melted before plowing. sprinkle road was repaved while IT DID NOT HAVE ONE SINGLE POT HOLE. the road was perfect.

think of this. would you replace the head gasket on your bike when it ran perfectly. it would be a waste of money. if this government would spend wisely. i believe none of us would have to pay high taxes.

but politicians dont care how much or where the numbers come from.

clinton did but thats another issue.

I definitely do not get to bring home 84 percent. Someone else posted that number about someone that the knew. I do not believe that number at all. I have not really calculated my percentage, but I am more than certain that it is far less than 84%.

gwolever threw out the 84% number. I have a feeling that the person that he was talking about may have been part of a multispecialty group, an independent contractor, or just flat out self employed. If that is the case, the 84% number makes sense-- but is misleading.

At your work, you pay 7.65% of your gross for social security and Medicare taxes. Your employer matches that 7.65%. When someone is an independent contractor or self employed, they have to pay both parts (7.65% + 7.65% = 15.3%). Then, they have to pay something called an Estimated Quarterly Tax. Your taxes are withheld from every check, but self-employed people pay their taxes every 3 months. That is still based on the aggregate of the 3 months pay.

Like I showed in a prior post... The person making 1200/week pays 10 times more in federal taxes than the person making 400/week. That translates to tax rates of 10.25% for the "rich guy" and 3% for the "poor guy." A guy making 2000 per week would be paying more than the 10.25% that the 1200 per week guy is paying. Both of these people are married with 2 dependents.

Trust me, you do not want to be paying the same percentage of taxes that I pay, and I do not want to be paying the same percentage tax rate as a person who makes 5,000 per week. The tax code is skewed. The more you make, the more they take. Don't fall for the propaganda of the political left, labor unions, and Democrats. It is a lie.

I admit im wrong about the percentages. I still standby the other problems in the nation.

Non citizens getting social security and medicaid/medicare benefits who have never paid into the system while people who need it ( i know of a couple people including myself) not getting the help they need, and have paid for.

The horrible way this government spends money. (ie perfect roads being paved)

Unmarried, underage, unemployed girls getting pregnant because they know they can get more "free money" from the government. (aka a cousin of mine)

and I still stick by the fact that NEITHER mccain NOR obama will be good for this country.

    Peter Griffin for president 08

McCain is not the best-- but he is the better of the two by a long shot. I guarantee that after two years of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid... the working people of America will be looking back calling the 8 years of Bush the "good ol' days."

You consider the non-citizens, big spending liberals, unmarried, underage, unemployed moms a drain on the rest of us... Barack Obama considers them his base.

DR Bob what I mean is I can't read your posts because I think about you what you think about me. I get started and just can't take it.
My family on both sides have been in this country since before the American Revolution which they fought in and have fought in every war since. We lost members at Andersonville prison during the Civil War, one in WWI and two in WWII and a cousin in Korea (he was in the Marine Corp – his body was never found). My Grandfather was a pilot in WWI and my Father was a B26 pilot in WWII. Both my great grandfathers were ministers and my family is very religious. My picture was taken in 1970 I am 58 years old and have served my country. I am entitled to my points of view and do not need a lecture from you which frankly is how you sound. But look no hard feelings if you agree to disagree ( I disagree with you on everything) I think we might actually have a lot in common. JIM

i cannot say i agree with you that mccain is better than obama. he is simply a worse copy of bush. he has stated openly that he is going to have an absolute cut on spending for everything asside for 3 things. one of course being war.

iv heard him talk about things such as banking industry changes. everything he is going to do will make it even harder for lower income people to get by. for anyone making over 100k and up he will be great. but for the rest of us, the vast majority who make less his policys will make it even harder to simply get by.

he is a very rich man who will continually separate the rich and poor and tip us into another depression.

obama wants to put a bandaid over the problem with more taxes. instead of solving the problem of spending money uselessly.

we need to put a poor man in charge of the government spending. someone that can get 10 bucks worth of groceries with 3 bucks.

Sincerely, I appreciate the sacrifice and bravery of all… those like your grandfathers, your cousin, and you… who have stood in the gap to protect the freedom that I have enjoyed my entire life. The same freedom that I have come to more than enjoy—but rather cherish—as I have grown older and the hair on my own temples has begun to grey.

Consider this: It is no longer 1775. It is no longer 1863. It is no longer 1914. It is no longer 1941. It is no longer 1968. But, the freedom that you and your family fought for and died for is the same freedom that I would fight for and die for in 2008. I want to pass the same freedom that your family helped to preserve for you and me on to my daughters and my daughters’ children. I cannot understand why anyone would want to give it away.

You know what would be fun… trying to figure out something that we do have in common. I’d almost bet that we would even disagree about synthetic vs. dino oil.
