What's the switch for. Andis it weatherproof. If so where did you get it.

Most of that stuff is not for me but I have to say you did a fine job on the mods.

    Hi,

I really like the mods you have on your bike, the mirrors!! What a great idea. I do have one question tho, I'm only 5'5" and I have a bag on the back of my bike. (Also have a Garmin Street Pilot I need to get mounted & wired in) However, when I dismount, I have a heck of a time getting my right left up that high to go over the bag. Do you have trouble with your luggage on the back and getting your leg up and over it? Generally only when I've been on long rides and am tired do I have trouble.

    Beautiful bike! Great job!

    Theresa

    Nope, '73 TX750. Wes’s Ramblings » Blog Archive » 1973 Yamaha TX-750 - Back on the road…. almost

The switch is for my heated vest. Nope, not waterproof. It was $3 and will take about 5 minutes to change once the contacts get corroded enough. I plan to replace it with a better one if I can find one. Who am I kidding, it'll prolly never happen... Thanks for the compliment!

Nope. I dont swing my leg over I lift my foot and stick it across the seat, if you know what I mean. I'm 5' 11" so I have no problems. Thanks for the compliment!

    Thanks Guys,

The cruise control works fantastically, I'm very pleased with it. I took a boat load of pictures when I did it as well as documanting all of the wiring. I'll post a complete how to with pictures etc one day soon.

    Cheers,

    Wes

I Love the MODS!!! Well done! I decided today that I'm going to do the Audiovox Electronic cruise control MOD. So, whenever you get those pics squared away, and maybe some instructions.... ;-)

I'll be waiting with baited breath!!!

hey Wesley, I'm curious about your SPOT device. Ever had to use it? I've been considering one but when we tested them at work late last year reception in wooded areas was abysmal, wonder if they've improved that.

Sorry guys, I've been travelling a lot with work. Tried to rent a bike in Denver on Tuesday but couldnt find the time...

Anyway, I'll get my a55 in gear and get a how to built. Maybe this weekend over a glass of wine. For pics in the mean time just go to my blog, Wes’s Ramblings.

Yes, it'll work on the 97 VFR, you just have to figure it out... Hopefully my instructions will help (when they're done).

SPOT: I've never used the 911, just the tracking and it seems to work flawlessly. As long as you have skyview it "should" work. It is fully satellite after all. It is a bit slow to start though, I usually just turn it on before I start my ride and just leave it on. It'll keep resending the 911 signal until you turn it off.

I was also wondering how you got your autocom plugin mounted in your triple clamp? I have mine just coming out from under the seat, but I like the way yours is done MUCH better. I'll be eagerly awaiting the Audiovox cruise control instructions as well! :)
    Thanks

As far as the Autocom plug goes, I simply gave it a couple of dabs of black RTV silicone and fead it through from the bottom.

Sorry for the delay on the cruise control instructions. There always seems to be something else I need to do... Coming soon, I hope.

I'll have to take a look at that! I definitely like the look. No Hurries on the cruise control. If I decide to do it, it will probably be during the upcoming winter months. Thanks for even intending to do it! I know how busy life gets :)

Wesley thank you for a great thread and thanks for all the replies and requests. Surely everyone reading this heard themselves saying exactly what I wanted to see and hear, exactly what I wanted to ask. Excellent!

I am considering buying a '98 from a friend and comfort is the main concern. I current ride an upright riding position KLR and that is good for me. The other motocycle I am considering is the upright riding position Versys. How comfortable should I be on a VFR if the Helibars (1 1/8" up and 1 1/2" back) and Buell pegs were installed? I am 6', 32" inseam, average arm length, 10.5 boot, 210+.
Corbin is alway a fun adventure since I am close enough to ride to Hollister for an early lunch, do some PCH, and return home.
    Thanks.

    You're very welcome.

I'm very comfortable on the VFR, I've done 1100 km's in 11 hours by myself (only stopping for fuel and a 10 minute lunch) and I could've continued.

I can say that the corbin/heli/pegs are a DRAMATIC change. I switched bikes during a ride with a friend (stock '02) and it was like trying to ride a football in comparison. For reference I'm 5'11, 32" inseam, 12 boot and about 200 lbs. Also, I should note that the Corbin made the biggest difference.

Interestingly, I'm buying a KLR this winter.

Thanks for the encouragement with your riding experiences.

July 2006 I took a Tech Day trip to San Diego. On the return trip I rode approximately the same distance in the same amount of time and felt teh same way. After a pit stop and a glass of water I seriously thought about unloading my gear, cleaning my visor and completing the Iron Butt distance of 1609 km. After a beer (Sapporo) and sandwich I was on the couch and through for the night.

I pm'd you about the KLR.

    Thanks.
