    Howdy.

I'm Joe from New Orleans. I ordered my 08 Interceptor from the dealer Ive been dealing with for 20 years. I like the site and reviewed a number of threads before making a decision to get the VFR. I look forward to learning more from this site.

I started riding in 1988 - an '84 V65 Sabre (V-4). I also had a '94 1100 Shadow, '02 VTX 1800 C, '05 VTX 1800 F and an '07 CBR 1000RR. After talking with several people I decided to get the Interceptor. Every review, either in print or talking to people on the street, was positive. My neighbor has a 2000 model that he put 110,000 miles on without any trouble. I'm looking forward from getting the call that my bike in in. Back full circle to the V-4.

    Joe

Welcome to the boards Joe! You'll love the VFR and as you've already seen it will last a long time if you take care of it. How is the riding in N'awlins? I'd like to take my bike down to the Big Easy some day....I just wish I had a place to crash while I am down there (wink wink)

    Regards,
    Rollin

    Thakns for the welcome guys.

NOLA is not very user friendly for rides. We usually go north of Lake Pontchartrain (22 mile straight line bridge with its own police department) where there are a lot of nice roads.

My neighbor with the y2k sold it at 110k. I understand its still running strong.

In anticipation of receiving the bike, I must have read every link google could find. Got the call yesterday afternoon. Picked up the bike about one hour later. :ncb: As I mentioned, I've had several different types of bike over the years. This is the most balanced bike by far. Very quick. Easier to toss into a turn than I thought considering its weight. VERY smooth. Not the brute force of a bike my CBR 1000 was no to mention I'm not nearly as streached out as I was on the CBR. I finally listened to my neighbor (had the 110k VFR) and got the right bike (he has been telling me for two years to get the VFR). I just need to take it easy now till I hit 600 miles….

Wow. Piss? No. Can't say that I've payed much attention to the smell while I'm enjoying the "entertainers." And there is music too! Of course, if you are not a local, you'd probably not be privy to the better hot spots and end up paying attention to whether or not the area smells like roses....

NO it doesn't. They hired a new upstart waste cleanup company, SDT Waste, and the French Quarter is cleaner than I ever remember it being. it actually smells like a scented disinfectant to me.

too bad we can't stop our week bladdered tourists from pissing on our streets .

    Joe,

great to hear you got the new bike. on Sunday, I am thinking of heading to the northshore via the rigolets and up into washington parish through slidell to bush gonna hit LA 40 for a nice ride. Private Message (PM) me if you and your neighbor want to hook up. Can't ride tomorrow Got a job to do.

Good I went there and stayed across on canel street in the hotel straight down bourbon street. I experienced the piss smell, the thugs after midnight, the rats a foot long running across the street, the entertainers on the cardboard boxes playing drums on a plastic bucket, the transvestites, the drunks, the strip club(the one were you can go out back into those rooms) ,the porno shops, the great food, got hammered at the blacksmith shop bar at end near the civil war historian shop. Maybe I missed the (hot) :rolleyes:spots but I went into every building on that road drank beer from outside vendors ate food at about 10 different restuarunts, once again food was GREAT..But it did smell like piss...:cheersaf:

I went to Disney World's Port Orleans Hotel a few years ago. Looked like the French Quarter but something WAS missing - the smell. Bourbon St IS much cleaner now.

    Dan,

Just got this message. I rode today - 322 miles - Causeway to Northhore, Bogalousa, Pervis, Ms., down to Gulfport, ate at the Shack, I-10 to 637(?) down a back road to Hwy 90 past Lake Catherine back to NO and I-10/610 back to Metairie. THIS IS THE BEST BIKE I'VE HAD YET. It’s not the animal my CBR 1000 was, but it’s quick, balanced, and comfortable and got complements everywhere I went. I’ve still not whacked open the throttle to redline as I’ve not hit 600 miles. I did notice the transition into 4v at 6700 rpms that I read about on this site. It was very cool. Also, the group I rode with (SV 1000, GSXR 600 and GSXR 1000) was stopping to fill up while I still had about a half a tank of gas left.

Anyway, can’t make it tomorrow. I was luck to have my schedule suddenly clear for today giving me the day off. We’ll have to shoot for another time.

    Joe

You've got that right! If you want some peace of mind and a more reasonable riding environment, then the New Orleans metropolitan area is definitely NOT the ideal place to end up donating your organs. The solution is to head out of the city - north across the lake. :bolt:
