I recently went for a ride and stopped for gas. When I went to turn the bike back on nothing happened. I mean, really, nothing happened. No lights came on, no guages came up nothing. Even the clock which was on when the key switch was off did not register with the ignition on. I tried the following with no better results:

    1. Installed a new battery.
    2. Let the bike sit and tried turning it on again.
    3. I checked the main, in line fuse near the starter and it is fine.
I did notice that there is a scorch mark on the starter magenetic casing
where that cable connects on the rigth hand side. It still looks intact.

Nothing seems to work. I finally had it towed home. iIjust need some advice on how to proceed next. What I am considering is replacing the:

    a. magnetic starter switch (Honda batter fiche 94-97, part 8

    and/or

    b. The Contact base or switch assembly

Or should I just take it to the dealership and let them diagnose?

I thank everyone at VFRworld in advance for any help/advice they can provide to get my ride back on the road.

    1.) Ground circuit fault
    2.) Ignition switch failure

It doesn't cost a thing to check them out........

follow the terminals with a meter or test light and see where the power stops. My guess would be a bad ground or coroded main terminal.

I am thinking switch failure (or maybe the run switch was off? Been there, done that, not realized it, felt like a dork), or some fault in the switch wiring.

When the run switch is off all of the lights still come on, but the starter motor won't crank.
