For the north georgia VFR dudes there's a shop called JIMSS Moto but I strongly recommend staying away from them.

I went to the shop and I said that the front brakes shake when I pull on them and they need to be fixed but I wasn't sure was wrong. I also asked him to replace the rear tire with the same model/brand, Continental Road Attacks.

Jim, the shop owner, said he'd call back tomorrow with an estimate. The next day it's 5 pm, the closing time and no word from him. What the hell?

I called him at 5:30 and he says that the front brake rotors need to be replaced and it's going to cost $1,200. I was shocked to hear about that quote but I didn't have enough time to talk with him on why it cost so much because I had to do some things at work.

Next morning I call him up and ask him for more details on why the cost was so high. He said, "uh.. the front brake has to be replaced, and the front wheel bearing has to be replaced and there were several things I don't remember. Could you email me and I'll get back to you?"

So I email him and he says that the front wheel bearing is going bad and it's making the front tire cup. So he says it has to be replaced and ALSO the front tire has to be replaced and the brake fluid has to be bled out and replaced. Why didn't he just tell me that when I called him? He acts like he doesn't have his head on straight.

I was pissed at how he didn't tell me all that so I just told him to ONLY replace the rear tire because they had a spot with no more rubber left. It was barely holding together.

Finally I get my bike and guess what? He replaced the rear tire with the WRONG model. I ordered the Continental Road Attacks. He put in Continental Sport Attacks. What the f$ck!??! He can't even do a brain dead tire replacing job right!

And that's why I recommend staying away from this shop.

Joe: Thanks for the info. I'll steer clear unless I need Sport Attacks. Maybe there are multiple S's to emphasize how much his shop sucks? Hope you get the front end figured out...

If you need the Sport Attacks, I have them from $100 on up, rotors are cheap too.

This is why it is good to be part of a community. Reputable vendors will realize the benefits. Others, such as this DBag, will suffer the just consequences.
"So Jim buddy, does the naked supermodel come with that $1200 tire???"

    get the facts straight

    Ok Joey Dude,
first of all you called me for the answer so I gave it to you--you said that your brake shakes when you get on them and you dont know why--you also ask for a rear tire SAME MODEL--ok

I give you a quate on fixing the problem witch totaled 1200.00 dollers
    This included
front tire--because it was cupped badley
front rotors --because thay were warped almost 3 mm
brake fluid change--very dark in color
brake pads--really need to inbed new pads to rotors not old pads
    rear tire--you ask for it
and labor--because thats what I do

frist of all --you did contact me and I told you everything and also emailed you an quoute--you then said do the job so I ordered all the parts--
2 days later you call and say you dont have the money just put the rear tire on --I said ok--so I had to restock all of the other items at my expince--

I am very sorry you are unhappy but parts are not cheap--and by the way the tire is the same as what came off the bike

Just for grins I checked the cost of the front rotors and they are $300 apiece
full list but if you get them from Service Honda you can get up to a 30% discount. From them the cost is still about $200. I have not found any place so far that is any cheaper for parts. Brake jobs are pretty easy if you have basic tools. Have not had anybody do a brake job on any vehicle of mine in
30 plus years. Shops make tons of money on these types of jobs. I have a
boss pay $800 to do a brake job on his car.

Yeah mustang01 that's what I ended up doing. I got new brake rotors and a newfound motorcycle buddy to help me put the brake rotors on. The brake shaking problems went away and I didn't need new brake pads, neither did I need a new front wheel bearing, or new brake fluid.

And the wrong tire was what killed me. I mean, the model name is on the SIDE of the tire. Road attacks and Sport attacks are different tires.

My prices are my prices on what ever I do, If you don't like what I charge than you have the right to go shopping for a better deal. I don't order parts until you agree to pay what I charge for labor and parts. It's really pretty simple. As far as the tire goes, Joey you should have caught that at the time of service, not after riding down the road (always double check everyone).

whenindoubt01, I told the guy TWICE I want Continental Road Attack tires. First I called him and said I want a rear Continental Road Attack tire. Then when I was at the shop I told him again, that I want a rear Continental Road Attack tire exactly the same as the one already on it.

I'm sorry but I'm not doing business with someone that doesn't pay attention. When I saw the tire he already put it on and I just cut my losses and got the proper tire elsewhere.

I don't mean to stir the pot here, but part of the reason I do 99% of my own repairs and maintenance is that I have had such poor experiences with professional service. About the only time that I bring any vehicle to anybody is if the tools cost too much or it is outside the realm of what I can physically handle.

I do NOT agree that I should have to check to make sure that somebody else has done their job correctly. On the rare occasions that I take a vehicle to somebody else, I do check the work, but I resent having to do so. In all of the various things I have been involved with professionally, mistakes happen due to us all being human, but it is the exception, not the rule. If too many mistakes happen, people are replaced or the company fails.

The only other thing that I'll add is that it is really important to be clear on exactly what you want the shop to do. I apologize ahead of time to the person writing up the service order for being so precise in my "instructions", for lack of a better way to put it. It is not possible to be too clear.

OK, end of running dialog. It is not my intention to attack any professional mechanics out there. There are some really good ones, but they are rare. If I could find somebody I trusted, particularly with my bikes, they would get some work. Unfortunately, when repairs are done and something is overlooked, I'm the one who breaks down in the middle of nowhere or falls down.

Sorry JD, I gotta go to bat for the shop this time....if....the bearings , rotors, front tire and fluid require changing......it sounds like the guy wanted to fix the complete problem...although he never got the chance.

If I was you Joey, I'd put a little more thought into what the estimate encompassed work wise....I think you heard $1200.00 and your brain shut off right there. You may think you have it fixed, but if you really trusted yourself, why didn't you do it yourself in the first place? Not slammin' you, just wondering and offering my opinion.

I consulted with other guys who are good with motorcycles and they concluded that the front wheel doesn't need new bearings. At that time I wasn't mechanically inclined with my bike and I didn't have a lot of time to look over the service manual and see what is really wrong.

To put this into context I went to them and said that the front brakes shake whenever I apply them and that it needs to be fixed. Think about it this way... if you went to jiffy lube and ask for an oil change then they quote you $500 because they say you need new tires, new brakes, new air filter, new battery, etc... You're going to be like wtf?

A much better approach would have been to quote for the oil change and say, "Oh by the way, your tires are getting bald would you like to order new ones?"

Oh, and as for the brake fluid it didn't need to be replaced right away. All I wanted was the brake shaking to go away not a complete revamp of the whole braking system. Replacing the brake fluid would NOT have fixed the problem neither would replacing the front wheel bearings have fixed it. As I said before me and a biker buddy replaced the front brake rotors and bam, the brake shaking problems went away! It only cost me $400 in brake rotors and a couple beers for my buddy.

Did you pay for the bike shop's time to diagnose what the problem was?

I paid for a tire that I didn't want and paid a restocking fee for parts I didn't even need to fix the brake problem. Fair enough?

Obviously you're taking the service center's side for whatever reason. I'm not going to say anymore about my experiences with the shop because I've laid out all the facts with this. It's your life and if you still want to go to JIMSS MOTO despite my experiences knock yourself out.

For your information I do not hate every service center. I have had good experiences with a tire service place and you can read the thread on this: http://vfrworld.com/forums/service-center-reviews/18361-found-good-inexpensive-tire-shop.html

Likewise, there's a place I've been dealing with for parts and service that I'm happy with and you can see the thread here: http://vfrworld.com/forums/service-center-reviews/13511-lawrenceville-honda.html

Plus I have had good experiences with a Nissan dealership for my cage; they don't try to make me buy parts/service I don't need and they are always prompt with estimates and quotes. I don't have to tell them twice what I need and then they screw up.

The main point of this thread was to give a heads-up to anyone in north georgia looking for service center. If you think that I judged wrongly and that I should have paid $1,200 for items that do not fix the brake shaking problem and that I should be happy with the wrong tire even though I told him twice what tire I want then go to JIMSS MOTO.

I don't like checking anyone's work, it is a real PITA and if my life is on the line I will always check. I had a tire put on and I double checked only to find the tire was placed on backwards?? What a disaster that could of been? I double checked a company that does vehicle oil changes and found the oil plug not tighten?? So yes, always double check anything anyone does to your motorcycle, it could be your life that's on the line.

I just see a lack of communication between the 2 party's is all. JIMSS MOTO wanted to be very clear obviously, due to wanting to EMAIL you. $1200 does not seem like a bad price considering all the work that he offered to do and all the parts. No maybe you did not need a bearing right away, nor did you need a brake fluid replaced right away, and you could fudge on the break pads as well. Sounds to me like JIMSS MOTO gave you a complete repair that's not a budget repair. You should have taken the tire back if that's the one you did not ask for.

I think this thread is bogus and needs to be removed, due to the lack of communication.

Are you kidding me? I fixed the braking problem for only $400 by just replacing the front rotors. That's a hell LOT cheaper than $1,200. I saved $800 in unnecessary repairs. You're just basically saying at least he's not that expensive when ripping you off!

And you're talking to me about communication? I told the guy on the phone AND in person that I want the problem fixed with my brakes. What is NOT to understand about that? I didn't say I want the entire brake system redone; I only want the shaking to go away. I didn't say that I want a new front tire, new front wheel bearing, etc... What the hell does a new front tire and new front wheel bearing have to do with brakes going bad?

When I was on the phone to ask him his diagnosis (and he was supposed to call me but never did) he said I need new front brake rotors and it's going to be $1,200. Uh... excuse me, $1,200 for a front rotor job?

Would you want to deal with this guy again to get the tire replaced? I wanted to get out of there fast.

Lets see here?. Front tire due to cupping $$$, back tire you requested $$$, Rotor $400.00, brake pads $$$, front wheel bearings$$$, brake fluid $$$ and now we have labor to add to that $$$. Joey, look at the cost of all parts and times that by 40% for mark up and then add up the labor hours $75.00 per hour and see what you get? Don't forget tax either. After you have this work done, don't forget to double check the work, it's your life that's on the line.
I wonder what JIMSS MOTO would charge for just rotor replacement and cost of parts? More than $400.00 I would guess.

I have NO knowledge of either party here and do not have any interest in any party here involved. So, vote for me as United States President!
