New improved RR has wrong plugs,?

    Just got my new improved RR from Ron Ayers[pn 31600-MGB-306]and the plugs are different than my 99 vfr plugs.The wires are the same but the new RR has a additional black wire on the large plug.Any idias,splice my plugs to the new RR ignore the Black?

    That's the part number for the one that fits the 2001. The part number for the '99 is 31600-MGB-305. I know, I just bought one. :) I don't know if you can use it with the '99, but someone will be along soon that knows for sure.

    whoa - thats a new one on me - suggest contacting the wire my bike guy and pick his brain. - I may have given s14daver the wrong pn.

    - 305 is the big finned for '98-'99?

    31600-MBG-305 is for the 1998 and 1999 models. It comes with larger fins an aluminum backing plate and longer bolts.

    The -306 is for 2000 and 2001's and cannot be used on 1998 and 1999's unless you do some creative wiring to connect a wire from it directly to the battery. At least that is what I read when I replaced my RR on my 1999.

    The -305 for the '99 is about 50% thicker, a little over 1" thick for the OEM vs a little over 1.5 " thick for the new OEM, has 13 fins instead of 10, and has the aluminum plate and longer screws. It is plug and play.

    WireMyBike.com has a harness that will allow you to use the new R/R on the '99 bike. Dunno if there is any advantage except for the fact that the -306 is cheaper.
