Just wondering the likley-hood of someone stealing a VFR these days? I own a 98 and wonder if getting an alarm for is a good investment. Has anyone had one stolen lately?
Actually my Sgt. and I are working a case right now where a 99 VFR and a 99 Blackbird were stolen at the same time from the same guy, right from his garage. So I would say chain the sucker to a large MEAN dog........
Purely linked to the demographics in your area. Best to ask your local police department and other riders in your area. If I lived on Long Island and street parked my VFR I'd have good comprehensive coverage, regardless of an alarm and Kryptonite NY chain.
In 2000, my first yellow VFR was stolen 4 days after I bought it with 86 miles on the odometer. I am so paranoid about my current bike being stolen, I won't go to a restaurant unless I can sit by the window just so I can keep an eye on it. KC-10 FE out... lane: :usa2:
not sure in Canadia but here in Cali it happens on occasion I hear, but have never known of one. I have left my key in ignition for over 12 hours while working more than one time and found the bike right where I left it minus some paint, gas, etc... just kidding. No one has messed with my bike here AFAIK but I don't live anywhere near LA or any other city where it probably happens.
it is a good idea to have an alarm on any bike, the threat of theft is always there unfortunately. lojack is expensive but if it happens you will be glad you spent the extra money
My old VF500F got stolen from out in front of our apt building, when I lived in Philly. got it back a few days later, when the dude forgot to untwist the wires & killed the battery. Bob
An alarm might pay for itself over time through reduced insurance price. Many insurance companys will drop the rate if the bike has an alarm. Call them to see if your bike will qualify.
