After years of longing for a modern bike, and months of scouring craigslist and eBay, yesterday I rode home a '96 VFR. It is quite a change from my '58 BMW R60, but I was amazed at how quickly I started to get accustomed to it. The power, the handling, the brakes, the wind protection, everything is lightyears ahead of what I'm used to, and yet 20 miles into the trip I was thinking, This is perfect, this is absolutely perfect.

    Happy happy joy joy.

You in Gaylord area? 45th Parallel always makes me think of the sign on 75 around exit 283 or so. Been past it about a million times. Born and raised in Cheboygan. My dad has a cabin just outside of Gaylord (he lives in Detroit), and he comes up on the weekends.

Hello and welcome to the forum senor. Make yourself at home.

Whoops, you just posted where when I was posting. I love the TC area. The west coast is the best part of the LP.....especially thru Charleviox, Petoskey, and M119 from Harbor Springs, Cross Village, and Mackinaw.

My avatar pic is the cylinder head from my BSA. When I was going through the motor, I looked at it and saw a skull, minus jawbone. One of these days I want to make a T-shirt with crossed conrods under it. :p

Do you ever ride M119? How is the condition of it lately? Used to be nice fresh pavement.

If you're near TC, you ever attend the Cherry Festival? Been years since I have been to that. Love the TC area!

M-119 is wonderful, one of my very favorite roads. I haven't actually been to the cherry festival yet; we moved up here from Chicago in 2005. This part of the state is full of lovely roads, winding through hills and lakes, and mostly empty of traffic, though deer are a worry, especially after nightfall.

Cool and here I thought you were talking about the 45th that crosses I5 in Oregon. Yep sounds like another happy 4th gen owner. ;)

    welcome to our home.

your old beemer looks just like a model im working on at the moment.

a 1942 Zundapp sidecar combo in 1/9th scale-WW2 Wehrmacht of course.

They sure havent changed the design too much altho yours is a lot cleaner in
its concept and doesnt have a machinegun!

like your 4th gen, loooks like someone made a few mods to it already.

i'll postup a pic of the zundapp when its done (its nearly finished) so you can compare it with your beemer.

its a great feeling when you get on a new bike and know you made the right D. :strong:

    enjoy...
