Arthur C. Clarke wrote a book called Songs from a Distant Planet in which far-away planets were colonized by humans. They were provided a number of rules to follow based on what had or had not worked on Earth One of the rules was that the leader of the colony was chosen by lottery as opposed to election. The underlying issue was that the character traits needed to successfully engage in and win an election disqualified you from being a successful leader.

While I will vote Republican I believe that both present and past Democrats AND Republicans have screwed things up so badly that it will take generations to get us back on track, and I don't believe that anyone will have the stomache for making changes until it is too late. Seems to me that over the last few decades a larger and larger amount of the reps have law degrees. What the hell does a lawyer know about running a country!!?? What the hell are we doing electing them!?

By the way, I think George Bush betrayed his own philosphy by having one of the worst spending records of any president. The Wall Street Journal has taken him to task a number of times on this issue. Basically amounts to buying political capital from various reps.

After the 1989 quake how long did it take for the freeways to be rebuilt in LA? By the next year most of the LA freeways were back in operation with no delays. IT took over 11 YEARS for the freeway replacement of the cypress Structure in Oakland to be replaced and we live in the same state! Because the Bay Area is very pro Democrat we were completely ignored when it came time for us to recover from our quake which affected more people than the Northridge.

I agree that free housing should never be an option but most people in New Orleans weren't able to qualify for the low cost housing loans. Not that they were on public assistance just because their income was not considered low enough to qualify and they didn't have any equity! Come on, there homes were just distroyed, how could they have equity!!! I have family in NoLa so i understand what happened there. The infrastructure was not destroyed in the earthquakes we had in Northridge and Loma Preada. Entire neighborhoods wered wiped off the map in NoLa (New Orleans).

Here's one for ya... The Oakland Hills fire of 1991. Very rich and affluent neighborhood. They didn't need FEMA or govt assistance but they got it hand over fist. the median income of those neighborhoods was 200K and up! All replaced with the govt's assistance in 1-2 years. the rich get richer and the middle class and poor get :ncb:

California, the land were a couple making over $85,000 a year STILL can't afford to purchase a home!

SS, The quake in Northridge was in early 1994 and by the time I left LA, late 96, there were still a ton of businesses and homes that were 'red-tagged'. Are you REALLY saying that the Bay Area is more Democratic than Southern CA, Really??? Hollywood bleeds democratic blood! Please!

Sorry that you have family in NoLa, so do I, and in Baton Rouge. They 'rebuilt' their houses with the help of family, and insurance money! Should the people in the upper MidWest that live in the Flood Prone Areas get new houses every 8 years when the Mississippi River, etc. overrun their banks? They call FEMA and say help! Some of the more intelligent people have moved their entire towns to higher grounds, or chosen to rebuild elsewhere! You live in a 'flood plain' you get flood insurance, earthquake zone...earthquake insurance, side of a hill in CA....fire insurance! It's expensive I know, but it's necessary. Do I want to pay for mansions in CA, or along the Gulf Coast to be rebuilt? Not a chance, I'm already paying for my home in Atlanta.

You talk about Ca and not affording a home! That's one of the reasons I got the hell out of there. (And California has always been a Democratic State, except for the gover-nator)

These two comments go hand in hand. There are far too many people in Washington that make decisions with their own fortunes in mind rather than vote or create bills or pass laws that are truly better for the American people. Why there are no term limits I have no idea it is just baffling! Voting for either candidate will not change this. Voting for no one will not change this. There is currently a Campaign for Liberty program that is based solely around being able to vote for candidates at any level that continually exhibit the desire to stay true to the US Constitution. The Constitution is the only way the oversized beast in Washington will ever be stopped.

We have a guy running for a congressional or state rep seat soon that had previously been in an office and had been indicted on several charges of mismanagment, embezzling and a few other things. He spent time in a federal prison. He is running for office again. He may actually win! What type of person would vote for a man that had been convicted of the above crimes? Uninformed, that's who and that's who the majority of politicians appeal to any time they open their mouths.

The only way to make any of this political satire any better is for the American masses to become more informed of the political landscape and stop telling all of their friends to not talk about politics. We will all remain sheeple as long as that message is passed.

uuuh, i'll take a stab at it...lets see as an american idiot box viewer who has fully given my full undivided attention and believe anything and everything THEY say, who refuses to read books, newpapers or anything with words with more syllable than 3...what would be a more entertaining election? what would divert peoples attention a little longer so the government can continue to suck your money out your pocket until november. the smart black guy -VS- the old US military guy. OR the clinton lady -vs- the old US army guy....hhmmm..

I really have no idea who to vote for.
I ignore all the media propaganda, seriously, we have had no TV in the house since the kids got past the purple dinosaur age.
I discard, unopened, all paper and e-mails from the candidates propaganda factories too.

All I know is that I want my kids to grow up in a free country.

I don't get distracted about saving the whales, the endless economic roller coaster's relative position at any given time, who we are at war with this year, etc.
    Freedom is all I want.

Which candidate will actually stop the govt. spying on all of us?
Stop making secret laws that we aren't allowed to decide if we want or not?
Which one will restore the freedoms lost, and see to it no more rights and freedoms are deleted?

Thanks for the enlightenment, was thinking intricate X files or V like conspiracy then find it simply comes down Obama looking and sounding better on the TV, would also think being backed by Opra helps.
