Are you serious?!? :faint: I think I paid about $260 for full coverage here. Of course my driving record was pretty clean but that was prior to owning a :vtr2:

I agree that buying a bike won't usually save you money. The reason I got one is 'cause I wanted one and for me, it makes commuting to work fun (most of the time). It doesn't hurt that I save at least $200 a month in gas vs driving my truck. Since that $200 covers my payment and insurance with some to spare its a wash. As far as maintenance, I do all my own so its not that expensive. An oil change every 4K is like 25 bucks and I have a BMC air filter so its permanent. I save up a little at a time so I pay cash for tires about every 8 months. Figure in a chain and sprockets every 20K, I've got 18.5K on my current set with plenty left. Like someone else said, I rather rack up miles on my bike than my truck. Also, those of you with small cars might be able to get off cheap on tires but its right at $900 for a decent set on the truck.

All of that being said I still occasionally catch it from my wife about the bike, defiantly if we had unexpected bills that month. If you wife is like mine when you whip out that spread sheet she'll look you right in the eye and say something like "I don't care what your spread sheet say's, the bikes a toy and you know it!" Good luck and hopefully it'll fly with your wife.

I have my bike, my old truck that serves no real purpose, bass boat, guns, and shelves full of books that no one reads but me

Could I survive without them? Probably

    Are they toys? Yep

Do I REALLY have to justify them? I say nope!!

Still though, be gentle on her and good luck.

I dunno guys. Viennese and I have been together for 25 years. She works and has her own bank accounts. I don't know how much she has but I do the taxes and I know how much she has to declare in interest income so know it is considerable.

Over ther years I have made all the mortgage payments, house insurance and upkeep. I bought the vast majority of the groceries. And due to the type of credit card we were using at the time, I paid her fuel bill for a couple years now too.

She is on her third brand new vehicle in our time, I am on my second, and I drove an old car for many years before I ever bought a brand new one. The house is paid for. We have a debt that I pay for. The house is paid for now and when I decided I was going to buy a bike for the first time, it went something like this: Viennese...I am going to buy a bike to commute to work.

The only comment made was when it arrived in my garage, driven there by the salesman, (I didn't have a MC class license), I didn't think you were going to buy that kind of motorcycle.

Nothing else has ever been said since. Love this woman.

I told my wife that riding a bike to work and back would most likely make we walk into the house with a smile on my face every night. She liked that idea. And for the most part it has worked. Never try to put financial benefits on paper/screen, it never works. Better to appeal to an emotional response from a woman. See, figures are logical (guy thinking, hence failure), whereas advantages/benefits are emotional (girl thinking/feeling, much higher chance of success). Also, let them think that they have come up with the idea as a way to make you happy, but be careful, as you are playing with the opposing teams tools by doing that.

Does she have a sister. Jk And what kind of bike did you tell her you where getting? you didn't take the time to show it to her like window shopping? My wife is always pointing things out in the window that she wants or is getting before it gets home.

Curious, Does she think the VFR is to racy? Or?

    hi,
I think that the worst thing a rider's wife can do is to say : it is time to stop driving your motorcycle. My wife never did it and never will do. I hope...

    You truely are blessed Randy.

I talked to my wife about getting my VFR earlier this year and in July I purchased my 2000 VFR. My wife and I never make big purchases without talking to each other and discussing the "family impact" of it all. She was not very excited about it though and was really against it. I have never stopped my wife from persuing things in life that make her happy and when she wanted a horse about 7 years ago I supported her 100% (WAY more expensive than a motorcycle and now we have 3!).

I too took the approach that it would be a stress relief and help me return home each day with a smile on my face which it does. Only problem now is she sometimes thinks I'm smirking... Anyway, after reminding her of my desire to start riding again she really never fought the idea...

    Good luck!!

I made the mistake of falling for and marrying a women who didnt care for motorcycles. Eventually it got in the way of riding time. Riding is like eating. Gotta do it. Divorced her.
Lesson learned. Dont go with a women that doesnt comprehend a riding lifestyle. Find one that would like to ride too.

Yes she does have a sister and the two are like night and day. The sister-in-law is quite a character but she would be far more vocal about this than the wife...not that the end would be any different. Strong Scottish element coming out here.

And I did not tell the wife what kind I was getting. Just said I was getting a bike. And I went alone to buy it. She did think I would gt a cruiser type and she thinks this is...yes... a racing type bike. I told her that it does the speed limit quite well. But I got found out.

    hi everybody,
just a question...would you be so kind to explain to me the mean of the acronym "LOL" ?
You explained me the mean of "squid", the mean of "Kinda" and other words that were unknown by me. But, at least, some of you adopted my "Lamps" as a way to say "ciao" to other bikers.
Thank you and...Lamps to all VFR owners!
    Carmine.

Sorry Mello. That should have read, "I agree with Mello , bikes are a passion"

It was meant for ddeford, with kudos to your outlook.
