thinking I would rather not have the wind blast directed straight at my helmet any opinions out there on taller windscreens for a 2007 vfr?? setting it up to do some touring :bootyshake2::bs
I second that. I have put 11,000 miles on my bike with the screen, including 6,000 touring, and I love.
I was considering a taller screen also however at 60+ mph, I really like how the wind on my chest makes it easy to keep the weight off my wrists. (FYI- I'm about 5'11') At slow speeds, I have to work a little harder to keep my posture correct. I'm guessing the taller screens help keep a few bugs off the face shield. What other advantages do they offer? Less wind noise around your helmet? Less wind fatigue on long rides? I'm thinking bar risers might be more necessary?
I'm 5'9 and do have Helibars on my bike, so the wrist concerns may be less of an issue. I found the stock screen taxing on long highway stretches. I think the wind at 60+ does help hold me up with the stock screen but it was not very clean wind, so it was fatiguing. The screens are so easy to replace that I could see putting the ST on only for long trips. My Shoie RF1000 helmet is really smooth in any wind. I found that was true with either screen. It was really the wear and tear of the chest buffetting that I wanted to address, and the ST does that perfectly.
Here is a link to the thread I did a while back. It has some pictures to compare the stock one, to the ZG. I have about 2,500 miles with mine on, and still like it much better than the stock one. http://vfrworld.com/forums/modifications/15493-2006-zero-gravity-sport-touring-w-s-install.html
I run both ZG touring and double bubble and find them not all that different. I'd say the ST gives slightly better protection to the head but at the price of slightly rougher air. I'm 5' 11" with helibars. I recently took a rock to the ST which destroyed it. I cut it up and am planning to try my own version of a laminar lip. I just cant stop f-ing around.... Wesley J
watch out for cheap screens on ebay i just picked one up and it doesnt have any tabs to mount it in the nose. but other than not being able to mount it to my bike ITS GREAT!
i baught my bike off a kid that laid it down at low speed and it didnt come with a screen so its got to be better than what i got. the new would be nice just no tabs for the nose. i rode it into work today it doesnt seem to move even at triple digit speeds its just the fit and finish looks like the $38 i spent on it
ZG are good screens and lots of guys have'em. I am tall and wanted the wind off me. I bought the Puig racing screen (Double Bubble) and it does a nice job of keeping the wind off. It also makes the bike look good (I think).
Givi touring screen Earlier this summer I tried a ZG touring screen, but I didn't care for how thin and flimsy it felt, and I really didn't like how it looked on my '07 VFR compared with the stock screen. (The ZG looked rather cheap, for lack of a more polite word.) As for wind, I wear a Shoei TZ-R full-face helmet, and I didn't notice much of an improvement, so I reinstalled the stock wind screen. Very recently though, I purchased a Givi touring screen (dark smoke tint), and I'm very impressed. I've noticed a significant reduction in bug splatters on my helmet visor, along with substantially better airflow over my upper body. Moreover, the Givi screen exudes quality with its excellent design, construction, and fit, along with great looks.
I am 6' 2' I do a lot of tour riding I haven't found any of the fore mentioned shields tall enough, any ideas. thanks for reading slickster.
