This may have been covered here since this movie was from 04. Was this the absolutely most cool motorcycle movie since On any Sunday? Two freinds going around the 20,000 plus miles on BMW's. Great visuals, soundtrack, and the story sells itself. I was a little dissapointed that the last portion of the film did not show enough of the good old USA. Did they superslab it through the heartland or take the sideroads. Either way a great movie about our passion. Kind of makes me want a Beemer!

    RIDE IT DONT HIDE IT

06 VFR Bought in April 08 5000 miles since purchase!

There is a sequel called "Long Way Down" where the boys ride from the tip of Scotland down to the bottom tip of Africa.
Perhaps not as good as the first but the coastline roads in Italy are worth the viewing just by themselves....

Was this a movie or was it that special where two Brits I think, drove around the world on beamers? This was covered on one of our cable channels. If it was the latter, I think they were Brits now living in New York I think. What a trip that would be. I think that one of their crew was killed when one of the support Rovers rolled in an accident so there is a sad side to this trip too.

I watched Long Way Down and some of the roads I seen them take would not be VFR worthy. In the movie was some crazy roads if you want to call them roads. The VFR would be a hunk of junk after that trip. But if Honda would give me a VFR for a trip like that, sign me up.

hey black cloud, unfortunatly 'long way DOWN UNDER' doesnot exsist.
it was my sugggestion for what they should do next.

down under being the common term for us upside down people in AUST & NZ!

    However 'LONG WAY DOWN' does.

this is BMW R1200 GS's in Africa. i dont think it is as good as the first, but it's still well worth a look. i got it on DVD in Dec 07 so should be avail on amazon or similar if you cant find it.

    apologies if any confusion caused.

also check out Charie boormans 'Race to dakar' .ewan didnt want to do that one. quire interesting too-charlie entered the paris - Dakar Rally i think 2006?

Ewan MacGregor & Charlie Boorman were the two who did Long Way Round & Long Way Down.

No-one was killed in that support vehicle roll-over crash, just minor injuries & two very shaken up people...

As someone has already said, there are DVD sets available of both rides. (Which reminds me, I should try to get mine back from the person I lent them to...)

I have been watching Long Way Down on TV. Pretty cool. Different perspective from the saddle. I wish I had time enough to do a fraction of what they have done.

    Both are good books/dvds.
I met Ewan (Obe Wan Kenobe!) at Blair Atholl horse trials a few years ago - a nice guy and real bike nut.

Just found and watched these the other day. Was wanting to watch something motorcycle trip related and local library had both of these DVDs. Totally infatuated with watching them for some reason and watched few times already. Guess you have to really like bikes to enjoy these and many would not. Hell of a trip, I will give them that and definitely a trip of a lifetime. I would love to do a trip like this but maybe not so extreme. Good watch if you are into bikes and surprised I have not heard of these before now.

Charley Boorman has made another couple of similarly entertaining series called By Any Means, basically getting from A to B on the globe by any means (so not necessarily on bikes but they are part of the journeys). There is also the Race to Dakar series in which he attempts to do the Paris-Dakar rally (no spoilers here).

Well some friends organised an evening with Austin Vince in their local village hall. I was a bit sceptical before we went & even more so when he kicked off with "during the break" when I was expecting to be there for an hour. Well nearly 3hrs later & with my tear ducks empty & my stomach muscles aching from the enormous amount of laughing I had done, it was one of the funniest things I had ever sat through & was an amazing talk/presentation with some fantastic pictures.

Not sure if he takes bookings in the USA, but if he does you would NOT regret it. He was the inspiration & technical liaison for the Long Way Round (LWR). Ewan McGregor of Star Wars fame read Mondo Enduro & called Austin (the man, not the oil town :) to ask if he would help them make a program, which became the LWR.

    Check out Mondo Enduro http://www.mondoenduro.com/

    Enjoy

I bought and watched why we ride, but for me its not a keeper. Too much about the people and feelings, not enough about the riding.

If you want a couple of great documentaries about MotoGP check out Faster and Fastest, plus The Doctor, the Tornado and the Kentucky Kid, all by Mark neale, narrated by Ewan McGregor and stunning photography.

The "Fast" series was awesome! I was unaware of that last one. Thank goodness I thought you were listing three movies but it is just one title. Added to list.

Such movies will help me get through winter easier.
