It seems wrong to bring it up in late August, but the weather here has been cool lately and the days are getting shorter. I live in snow country, and I need to put the bike in mothball status for the winter before long. I've read the owner's manual about this, but wonder if members of this forum do anything special to prepare their VFRs for winter...

I was thinking the same, time to winterize this weekend. My excuse is I'm having surgery next week. I typically add stabil, run it through, change the oil, wash and wax, oil the chain, attach the battery tender.

Any other advice? Some people don't like stabil.

Dang Seamus, can't believe it's getting to be that time of year already. I've got a couple more months to go before I go into moth ball mode. Here in NW Arkansas we only get about 5" of snow. I'm also fortunate in that the Bike stays in a closed garage, but I still do some things to prevent spring issues.
    1. Change Oil/Filter
    2. Fill Tank up and put in Stabil Fuel Additive
    3. Hook up the Battery Tender
    4. Wash & Wax the bike
    5. Clean chain and put on a fresh coat of Maxima Chain Wax
    6. Place bike on center stands and elevate the front tire to keep pressure off front tire/springs
    7. Lastly, I cover the bike with a bike cover that is vented at the top....read her a good night story and wish for warmer days.

Lets see. Winterizing my bike. I check to make sure my heated vest works. Check my weather resistant suit and either treat or replace as needed. Give the helmet lining a cleaning and put back in. Water resistant gloves need to be checked, The cheap rubber rain gear is always a must in case there are torrential down pours. Consider your boots. I need new ones this year. Mine are two years old and on a commute to work in the rain, the toes get a bit wet. And make sure you have good rubber on the bike so you don't hydro plane.

If this is not what you had in mind for looking after winterizing your bike, then yu are a Pansie, hoser and not a real Viffer. You should be riding a Harley cause we all know they don't run in the rain.:ncb::ncb::ncb::ncb:

Damn Westerners! In the east, after 4 winter seasons with very low snow falling, we got it all last one, almost a record:strong:

Have to admit that at least, spring, summer and fall are very nice, in BC, it rains all the time :ncb:

I'm in Vermont, and I ride almost until November...

Reconsider even THINKING about winterization in August.

Hope to ride the VFR until at least 1 of December this year:strong:

I went to school with a guy in Winnipeg who drove his Honda something or other most days in the winter there too. The snow there is dry so most blows off the road and Winnipeg is pretty good at clearing the roads down to the concrete. But I have to admit, we all thought this guys was a little off balance if you know what I mean. The elevator indeed goes to the top but the air is a little thin there. Then again, flat heads from the prairies do go out on snow mobiles in the -30 weather so what's the dif.
