I refrain. I know many who do not. But I am not one of them.

I know a rider who has lined his saddlebags so that he can keep the beer iced down. He is now being told that they will be amputating one of his legs due to a terrible motorcycle wreck. Obviously, this is way different than the circumstances that you describe, but some people just take things a little too far.

I doubt that 1-2 beers with lunch would have a noticeable affect, but still choose not to. Now I might carry some beer on the bike, I think I've had a case in the bags, but I don't drink while riding it. 2 each his own.

yeah for me i wont do a beer or any impairable chemicals riding a bike, cause i have a disease called i-can't-just-have-one-itis, and i dont wanna leave my family here alone to mourn over me....my wife and her new boyfriend might feel differently AFTER they cash the insurance check but hey its what helps me ride home safe at night. but to each is own.

Actually 1 to 2 beers does have an effect. Its something like a third of alcohol related crashes the rider only had 1 to 2 drinks in their system.

    FYI.

If a person says he/she has had one or two, I can just about guarantee you they have had 4 or 5. I have had only one answer to that question in my prior life. When I asked her how much she had to drink at a road check she said" Oh about a dozen" Somehow I believed her.

Yes. And if she were not driving, she would have surely fell flat on her face.

    Hey,elf,
Funny you should mention Harleys and booze...

When I ride past my local watering hole on a hot steamy Augst evening, what do you think the parking lot is full of????

That's right...H.D from end to end......
Big fat slobs and thier scrawny leather-faced wenches congratulating each other on how great thier slow chrome niosemakers are...

Oooops....said the quiet part loud again....

Anyway, for me it's ZERO tolerance to alcohol when riding..
When I ride I'm always trying to improve and learn from my mistakes,
How can I do that with a couple of beers in my belly???

When I fu*k up (and believe me,I do) by drifting off my intended line,or doing a sloppy down-shift,I like to know it's all ME and not my good friend Mr.BUSCH..
    So there's my .02.....keep the change!!!

    Cheers,:drinker:
    Bri....

Hey Elf. Not that I am picking on you but you said it last. It has been said by other before you as well. But I fail to see the difference between driving a cage under the influence and driving our cherished. VFR

I'll bite. My take is what he was saying is that riding the bike takes more focus than driving a cage. I think this has to be true to some degree but I have no statistical data to back it up. I did notice that after I started riding a streetbike most of the time, I paid more attention while driving a car than I did before. I have heard several people make similar comments to that so there is probably something to it...

    Reg,

I agree that one has to be more in tune with what he/she is doing while riding a bike, compared to a cage. For self preservation at least. But there seems to be, and maybe I am wrong, that for public safety, it is not OK to have a beer and ride a bike, yet it is OK to have a beer and drive a car. Now I am not taking a stand on whether "one" beer is OK to have then to drive. Everyone can be their own judge on that I hope. At least it appears on this site, they are. But I take the view that we should all hold the same gage if it is a car or a bike we are operating.

If you drink, please find a way home because I know your relatives and Joe public do not approve of drinking and driving. I tell anyone who is in my family or friends they have no excuse because I will gladly come and get them.

I'd probably have to agree here because as I think about it, I get more aggravated at the stance that is taken in the legal system if a biker is hurt riding. It is almost as if the public perceives it as their fault for riding since they knew it was "dangerous". It's just another example of a double standard similar to the way we have been looking at the drinking thing. Now, I'm really probably gonna ruffle some featers, but I think that after 2 beers, I'd still put my reflexes up against most drivers. Of course if I didn't have that kind of confidence, I would not ride the way I do. I know my mother in law who is in her 60s should not have a license. She frequently backs into things. She is the type to get out of her car and lock the keys in while it's running. I'd rather ride with my brother-in-law in his car and him having a 6 pack than to ride with her. (I don't ride with him after a 6 pk that's just for example cause he wouldn't drive) I think that we have enough laws already, though so I'm not looking for a ban all senior citizens driving type thing. I just wish the gov't would leave me the hell alone...

    |I agree with the feild. |No drinks while riding! I love to indulge in secure envirnments more than I should but not on a bike. I dont think that anyone wants to live crippled or having injured someone else because of making that kind of decision. I have friends that have a few beers on rides 1 or 2 and i dont look at them as being irresponsible but it is not for me, of course I am A USCG licenced capt. and a dui could ruin my carrieer

With me it just depends. If I'm riding the bike 20 miles up the interstate to eat dinner with some friends, I may have one beer with dinner, but not more than one. Same distance, same road in the car, I might have two...maybe.

If I'm headed out for a day of riding I'll have no beers until I'm within spitting distance of my ending point, and then just the single. Mostly I don't drink while on the bike.

In my much younger/stupider days it was a very different story: if I was out for the day riding maybe one beer, but I wouldn't hesitate to ride the bike to a bar for some drinking. Maybe you really do wise up as you age. :) Sometimes I wonder how I made it all in one piece.

I guess my attitude is one reason I don't care for the usual poker run type stuff. I don't care for riding in groups for one thing, especially with people I don't know, and there are just too many stops at or near bars.
