I know that you are not supposed to use anything acidic to clean windshields so I usually use water to clean my windshield. Recently I starting using a product called Brillianize and it works really well. It is safe for plastics and acrylics.

Brillianize #1 Rated Plastic Cleaner and Plastic Polish

Thought I would share this product with you.

Depending on the mess at hand in how many bugs  If it's a real mess light soap and hot water first then here's a secret, use a towel thats as soft as a babies bottom LOL wifes underwear? I have found some towels/ rags that are for cleaning camera lens, never never use a paper towel ands don't use the same towel you used to clean the bike either. Anyway then I use a product called Plexus, use it on the helicopter too. great stuff, helps make clean up easer too, if not that good ole Pledge furniture polish works great too, but think the Plexus does a better job as it's made for polycarbonate material, also works great for your rear tail lamp lens.

Mother nature takes care of it for me. Living in N FL. I get cought in the rain about twice per week, so when I slide into the garage looking like a drowned rat I hang up the dripping wet gear and wipe the bike down with microfiber towels. I will usually give it a very light spray of Honda polish on the windscreen, tank, and plastics, wait about five minutes then another wipe down.

The Honda polish does a great job on the windscreen as well as the rest of the bike. But yeah, a few thunderstorms a week keeps my bike very clean. If it is real bad, like love bug time of year, I will use baby shampoo and warm water to wash the bike, windscreen included before the HP treatment.

Meguiar's and a micro-fiber wash cloth. It's what we use on our helicopter, so I figure it's good enough for the VFR.

Speaking of cleaning windshields... Don't know if any of the other Gens have this problem, but on the Gen6 there is a cavity at the bottom of the wind shield just of above the lower opening that I can not get to. Anyone have a method for getting something in there to clean it short of removing the wind shield?

On the 5th gen that cavity runs up to the top of the panel. I spray it out and run a cloth down through there until it sticks out from under the shield. The I pull it back and forth until it is as clean as it gets(sometimes the bug guts are pretty tenacious).

Never quite understood how the bugs get squished on the under-side of the screen. I've tried something similar but there is a slight downward curve to the screen and I couldn't get enough pressure to do anything. Maybe I just need to get a thicker towel and jam it in there.
    Thanks.

There is a guy who makes a thing called a 'bug buster' that is a kind of screen that fits under there to keep the bugs out.

LOL ah one of the other little pet peeves about a owning a VFR, yea a pain in the butt, but like drew says, that and I use a specially shaped yard stick with my micro towel where I can get down there. pretty weird when I clean the out side and the inside is just as buggie.

That's something I don't experience......I have a 6th gen and i've never had any bugs on the back side of the screen...you folks must have swarms of bugs in your area........I do get them behind the screen on the upper cowl sometimes though.....I wonder if it's due to my windscreen shape, I have a ZG DB.

Right time of year, on the right road. Driven through swarms that have totaly shitted up my face shield that I had to wipe them with my glove just to see. also have both a wasp and a moth stuck in the mouth vent in my helmet.

Drives me nuts! An hour with the Honda Polish and a cloth and I still have this two inch wide strip on the under side on the screen I just can't get my hands on. It's the kinda crap that keeps me up at night.

For cleaning windshield (all plastic for that matter) I use Meguires and HOT water. You can rinse with hose.

The hot water really helps loosen the greasy grime and tar bits without using too much pressure or scrubbing which helps scratch plastic. I dry with a microfiber towel.
