    Hi,
    Silly question:

Can I take a donor engine from an 84/85 VF500 and drop it into my 86?
    Why I ask:
    Fuel Pump:
    - to the best of my knowledge the 86 dropped the fuel pump from the intake system
    - will this simply mean I need to use my 86 carbs and tank on an 85 block?

    Carbs:
    - I know that the 86 opted for a slightly smaller diameter carb that the 84/85 modesl
    - Was this change also accompanied with a timing/cam change = would I need to sync my 86 carbs?

And why the heck am I doing this?
Well. I've basically chickened out on a rebuild of an 86 block after getting the heads off.
If resynchronizing is involved though, putting the head back on might be less difficult.

    Many thanks,

    John M

Well - I picked up an 85 with a semi-running engine (fuel pump dead), so into the 86 it will go.

It would work just fine. The fuel pump is a non-issue. You can run the 86 carbs if you like, but the 84-85's are larger and make more power.

So the 84/85 carbs will work without the fuel pump?
    (cool!)
That might make things a wee bit easier still

The donor bike I've acquired also has a 4-1 exhaust, however, one segment is crushed (from the front left cylinder) not sure if I can weld a new segment in... however, I suppose that is a ways off.

    :)

    (thanks again Jamie!)
