Dont like the electrical gremlins with the 6th gen. Was also hoping it had a little bit more upright seating position. Is the 5th gen more reliable regarding the electrics? What is the best year Interceptor to purchase?????

    That is a tricky question.
The position can be remedied by some bar risers.
The gremlins should be fixed with a wiring harness upgrade-under recall so will be done free. A heavier R/R will help with the rest of the elec. issues.
The 5th gen has basically the same position and R/R issues, but the engine is sans-VTEC and has gear driven cams so sounds different and has a little different feel to it. Maybe take a look at one up close and see what you think.

drewl has hit it right on the head. Both bikes have great attribute and can be modified quite easily to handle much better than stock. A set of Heli bars will cure the riding position issue. The wiring harness is a free recall fix.

Anyone who tells you one bike is better than the other (5th or 6th Gen) is just tossing :bs: at you. YOU have to make that decision on your own in relation to your riding style. Both bikes will give you tons o fun and reliability. Good luck with your decision. :thumb:

Thanks for the replys. To clarify, I have a 6th Gen now. It has the new harness. It is shutting down while going through the gears sometimes; completely loses power, I pull in the clutch and have to restart it; it fires right up. Something wierd going on. Do the 5th Gens have the same types of electical gremlins?

I would not like any bike that was doing that either. Changing bikes may not be the best choice. Maybe try fixing the one you have. You would want to do that before you sell it anyway or take a probably large drop in the amount of money you will get for it.

Your issue seems to be a unique one. Your R/R may be trying to tell you something, or they screwed something up when they did the harness. Or it could be one of the few crappy bikes in the lot.
Good luck. Sorry I am not more help.

Sound like something unique to your bike. Maybe this guy could help --www.wiremybike.com - he's a bit of a VFR wireing guru. You may have something like a loose connector that bumps lose on shifting. Check battery attachment first. It always hard to debug via forum, it may be a dealer trip.

I've never have heard your problem on a 5th gen, but that doesnt mean its never happened. 5ths and 6ths share the R/R problems, but once its fixed the bikes are fairly solid. Mine is running strong.

I suspect a failing clutch safety switch (at the lever).
